Arsenal Transfer News: Signings That Could Be Coming to the Emirates

Dan TalintyreJun 7, 2018

When the football stops, the transfers start—it's just the way the world works.

Arsenal's transfer season has been dominated so far with news and opinions about Robin van Persie and Yann M'Vila, as well as what the future holds for either of the two. But as crazy as it seems, they're not the only two players in the world for the Gunners.

As crazy as it seems, there are other players out there that Arsene Wenger will look to bring into his side to improve on their third place finish in the English Premier League this year.

Here are four names that could well find their way to the Emirates over the next few weeks, along with the chances that Arsenal snap up their signatures this transfer window.

1. Foday Nabay, Birmingham City

Touted by many as the next Yaya Toure, Birmingham City youngster Foday Nabay is certainly a player for the future and could well be finding his way to the Emirates over the next few weeks.

According to Sky Sports, the star is close to signing with the Gunners, and it could simply be a matter of days before Arsene Wenger finds himself with another player to develop in his youthful side.

For those wanting to see him in a jersey soon, you might want to hold off for a bit considering that Nabay only just turned 13 years of age. Having said that, he did get called up to the England U-16 squad as a 12-year-old, so perhaps the hype is for real, and Arsenal's signing for the future could pay dividends.

2. Steven N'Zonzi, Blackburn Rovers

Arsene Wenger appears to also have his eyes on French midfielder Steven N'Zonzi, who is all but guaranteed to leave Blackburn Rovers following their recent relegation from the Premier League.

Sport 360 is reporting that the Gunners are the most likely out of several top-flight clubs to land the 23-year-old's signature over the summer transfer window. N'Zonzi presents a low-risk signing for Wenger.

3. Christian Eriksen, Ajax

Depending on the money available for Arsene Wenger, some players just might not be able to be signed. However, that's not a problem that the Gunners will have with Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen.

Former Danish and Dutch Player of the Year, Eriksen would fit in perfectly with Arsene Wenger's style of play and would be a great addition to the Gunners midfield—all whilst not breaking the bank.

Bleacher Report's Mikhail Turner wrote an excellent piece as to why Eriksen is a perfect fit for the Gunners, and it's definitely possible that we could be seeing his name at the Emirates some time over the next few weeks.

4. Martin Skrtel, Liverpool

Long shot? Absolutely.

Out of the question? Not at all.

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has expressed his desire to play Champions League football next season via the Daily Star and as a result, could potentially end up at the Emirates next season.

Whilst it might seem foolish to consolidate an already-strong back line, Arsenal still conceded the second-most goals out of the top eight teams in the Premier League this season, and could well do with some further strength at the back.

So, Who Should the Gunners Sign and Why?

5 of 5

At one level, we can throw up a list of suggestions as to who the Gunners should sign this transfer season longer than Joey Barton can last without getting sent off, but we must seriously ask ourselves as to who they are most likely to sign and why.

Sign Foday Nabay.

Firstly, we mentioned Foday Nabay who, aged just 13, is already tipped to be a superstar of the game. He'll cost nothing to sign, and with an excellent youth development program in place, Wenger should make the move and sign Nabay.

Hold off on Steven N'Zonzi.

We then looked at Steven N'Zonzi—the Blackburn midfielder who looks set to leave Rovers after their relegation. I think Arsenal should be a little more cautious on N'Zonzi and see what else they can pick up in midfield first. If they can't nab any of their top targets, then it might be worth pursuing him.

Sign Christian Eriksen.

Christian Eriksen is the one for me that simply must be signed. He will not cost anywhere near what he probably should and will consistently deliver for Arsenal every single week. His skills on the ball and ability to read the game off the ball make him a must-buy this transfer window—more than any other player on this list.

Hold off on Martin Skrtel.

Finally, there's the matter of Martin Skrtel, whose desire to play in the Champions League is starting to catch the attention of several top-flight clubs. And whilst the Gunners still need some defensive help, I think they won't be able to sign Skrtel—I just don't think he'll end up leaving Anfield.

Having said that, if the moment does arrive that his signature is available, I wouldn't consider it a poor signing at all—just don't count on it happening.

That's just my opinions on four players linked to the Emirates this season; I'd love to hear yours, so comment away below or hit me up on Twitter!
