The Rookie of the Year aged rather quickly in the one month since the Cleveland Cavaliers season ended.
Kyrie Irving is enjoying all of the benefits that come with winning the award, and that includes starring in your own Pepsi commercial.
In this extended mini-movie, there's an old man who jumps into a street ballgame and completely tears up the young bucks on the court. How does such an old man dominate these youngsters?
Because he’s actually Irving of course!
The commercial pulls the “four hours earlier” editing trick and shows us that Irving actually put on a mask and a ton of make-up to trick all of the street ballers.
I instantly thought of the Nike campaign they did a few years ago when LeBron James would dress up as a grandpa and critique the players of today.
The funniest part about this commercial is the lack of Pepsi MAX drinking. They don’t even flash the logo until the very end. I’m no advertising expert, but don’t you think old-man Irving should be sipping the beverage at least once during the commercial?
Regardless, kudos to Pepsi for providing consumers with a unique commercial that will surely be played endlessly throughout the summer.
As for Irving, after averaging 18.5 points and 5.4 assists in his rookie season, the 20-year-old has an incredibly bright future in this league, and landing a Pepsi commercial is just the beginning.
He can even cross dudes over in a fat suit and glasses!
