Well the verdict is in and it looks like Tom Cable with hold the reins for the Oakland Raiders next season.
Here's a decision that may come as a surprise to some but expected by others.
Is Tom Cable the right person to lead the Raiders next season?
Cable has done one thing in the Raiders locker room that has been missing since Jon Gruden got fired—teamwork. It's obvious when players start to work together and have a good sense of camaraderie in the locker room.
The beginning of any good team starts with the energy in the locker room. You don't need "superstars"—you need "super people."
Just ask the 2001 New England Patriots.
Cable is a man of democracy though.
He can't do it alone. Cable needs to have a strong staff around him to be successful.
Radiers GM Al Davis is going to play a huge part as well. Cable should not be a puppet, but at the same time, he should not bump heads with Davis.
A lot of us know the mistakes Cable has made in some of his play-calling.
I say let the man learn from his mistakes. I dont think we'll see any 70-yard field goals from Sebastian Janikowski next season.
Oakland can make their move in 2009. San Diego is on a decline, Denver is leaderless as far as the Raiders are concerned, and Kansas City...Well, we all know how they are doing. It's very possible the Raiders can be 10-6 with the right attitude. Look for a possible playoff birth, and maybe more.
Now that the team is on the right track with Cable, I want to see some good coaches around him.
In addition, the Raiders scouting team needs to be revamped. There's a lot of work to do and such little time to plan for it.
Jamarcus Russell is developing, and the running game is looking like a fast train.
Cable can make this work.
He has a large load to carry, but it's surely not impossible.
The Raiders are in dire need of a face lift. Can Cable give it to them?
We'll all find out next season.
