SEC Football Top 150 Players: No. 120, Shawn Williams, Georgia Safety
The SEC Blog will be counting down the top 150 players in the SEC every day, concluding on August 30 at the start of the college football regular season.
No. 120: Shawn Williams, No. 36, Safety, Georgia
2011 Stats: 72 tackles, five tackles-for-loss, four interceptions
Strengths
Williams passed on the NFL in order to come back to Georgia to chase an SEC title. He led the Bulldogs in tackles last season and finished second in interceptions. Bacarri Rambo gets the publicity in that Georgia secondary, but Williams played a big part in the resurgence of the defense. He's good in coverage and not afraid to stick his nose in and stop the run.
Weaknesses
Williams is great when he keeps the play in front of him, but sometimes struggles to recover. He gets overshadowed a bit by Rambo in the secondary and Jarvis Jones at linebacker, but those aren't bad people to be behind. He hurt his knee late in spring practice, but is expected to be fine by the start of fall camp.
2012 Prediction
With Rambo and Sanders Commings both suspended for the Missouri game in Week 2, Williams is being counted on to be the leader in one of the Bulldogs' biggest games of the year. Georgia's defense isn't going to sneak up on anybody this season, which means Williams is set up for a solid senior campaign.
