New York Knicks Sign Big Man Dan Gadzuric and Waive Bill Walker for Playoff Run
According to the New York Post, the New York Knicks front office have waived SG Bill Walker in favor of going big for the playoffs.
The team have signed 6'11" center Dan Gadzuric, who brings nine years of experience to a Knicks team bolstered with veterans.
Gadzuric spent the first seven years of his career with the Milwaukee Bucks, before recently bouncing around to Golden State and playing last season with the New Jersey Nets.
He is a career 50-percent shooter who brings an inside presence to a team that needs a second big instead of placing rookie Josh Harrellson down low.
With Amar'e Stoudemire's health a big concern ahead of the playoffs, the Knicks needed the help down low more than they needed the underrated Bill Walker. Walker was in the final year of his contract and played a lot of minutes before Linsanity, but recently has been sidelined with an injury.
Gadzuric probably won't see himself playing too many minutes, but you can never have enough big men. His shot-blocking abilities are something the team needs.
I'm not too sure about this in the long run, though. Walker showed the ability to be great at times and a good second option to Carmelo Anthony. At times, he was able to go strong to the basket, as well as be able to step back and hit three-pointers.
He's not at the star level, but is a solid role player that can really help a team out. Whichever team picks him up will get a great price for the talent they will receive.
Gadzuric is a good choice for the playoffs, but it really hurts to lose Bill Walker.
