Alex Smith, Alex Smith and More Alex Smith

Matthew YazoJun 7, 2018

Imagine waking up one morning and scrolling through B/R articles that contain no mention of "Alex Smith."

What would that feel like?

Would there be withdrawal symptoms?

After all, Alex Smith has been at the forefront of San Francisco 49ers football conversations since 2004, when the 49ers' failures earned them the No. 1 pick in the 2005 NFL draft.

What would a day without Alex Smith look and feel like?

Will that day ever come?

Or will this almost-decade-long soap opera continue until and through the apocalypse?

The latest episode in the "As Number Eleven Turns" saga reportedly involves the apparent repairing of relationships and a new contract.

That's right—Alex Smith is the starting quarterback of the 49ers again.

We've been down this road before with Alex Smith.

Right?

Because we've now been down just about every road with Alex Smith, aside from the hoisting of the Lombardi Trophy.

We've been through season-ending injuries, fights with coaches and game-winning playoff drives.

And I'm sure that somewhere within the Alex Smith archives, there's been a moment regarding "patching things up" and "contract negotiations."

Maybe even more than once.

So excuse me if this rerun doesn't interest me or inspire me to stay up until the wee hours of the night reading articles and listening to podcasts.

We've been here before, and we'll probably, on some level, be here again, because until Alex Smith wins a Super Bowl, all other episodes of the "Alex Smith Show" will be reruns.
