NFL Free Agent Signings 2012: Grades, Twitter Reaction and Analysis
The Buffalo Bills made Mario Williams a $100 million man on Thursday. Eddie Royal and Jarret Johnson signed with the San Diego Chargers, a team that's loading up for a big 2012. Ben Grubbs was made the newest member of the New Orleans Saints.
Some moves that went down on Day 3 of 2012 NFL free agency.
Here's a quick recap of Day 1:
What's in store for today?
Well, Peyton Manning is still contemplating where he'll play next season. Let's go, Peyton.
There's plenty more to come today.
As the multitude of NFL free agency rumors morph into reality, keep it locked right here for all the real-time updates on every morsel of information during the NFL's transaction frenzy.
Ladies and gents, this is my last post.
It has been an awesome four days here at B/R's official NFL free agency live blog.
Had a blast.
Hoping you did too.
I am now the master of taking a screen-shot, cutting out a tweet and embedding it into a blog post. Can do it in like 3 seconds.
I wish I could have posted about a Peyton Manning signing, but No. 18 is still working out and contemplating his future.
However, we did get to witness an unprecedented amount of action. Loved it. We're not done, even though I'm signing off for good.
You can follow me on Twitter:
We'll talk NFL, March Madness, and anything else that tickles your fancy. (yeah, I said it)
Thanks for all the reads, comments and overall support since Tuesday.
Pretty calm for a good 15 minutes in free agency. Hopefully it's the quiet before the storm. The Peyton Manning storm.
Peyton Manning news from John Elway himself.
The first Kamerion Wimbley news. McClure's the Bears' beat writer for the Chicago Tribune. (refresh to see embedded tweet)
Breaking News: Mike Klis with a report that the Denver Broncos are offering Peyton Manning a five-year, $90 million contract.
NOT a five-year, $60 million deal.
Sounds more like it.
According to Jerry McDonald of the Oakland Tribune, Kamerion Wimbley has officially been cut by the Raiders.
A solid 3-4 outside linebacker who can get to the passer. Hopefully he doesn't think he's going to get Al Davis-type deal.
"WR Chaz Schilens expected to agree to terms with the Jets today."
He's got an intriguing skill-set, but hasn't produced much early in his career.
Via Jason LaCanfora.
Aaron Wilson with some more news on another former Baltimore Raven:
"It's a three-year deal for Tom Zbikowski to join Chuck Pagano with the Indianapolis Colts."
A Jim Leonard-Rex Ryan-type move here. I think Zbs has a chance be chance to be a quality starter in Indianapolis, but the defense has a ways to go.
A stellar special teams add.
Out of the Manning race, this makes sense for AZ.
Manish Mehta with some more New York Jets news:
"Jets have agreed to terms on a deal with former Lions QB Drew Stanton, per source. NYJ finds their backup to Mark Sanchez."
Solid pick-up for Gang Green.
Things slowing down a bit in free agency. Tear.
A word on the possible Kamerion Wimbley release from Jeff Howe of NESN.com.
"The Raiders could still very well release Wimbley, but they have not informed him of his fate to this point, according to the source."
No further news on Peyton Manning and the Titans, Broncos or now, the 49ers.
Falcons bring back their premier edge rusher. Solid move. Still waiting on what the contract is worth.
Mark Gaughan of the Buffalo News with a complete breakdown of the Mario Williams' contract.
Jason LaCanfora with another low-profile signing:
"LB Kenny Onatolu agrees to 3 year deal w/ Panthers."
Didn't contribute much with the Vikings over the last three years and will be 30 in October.
Another team wants in on this saga. I've thought all along that the 49ers would be the most ideal fit. Super Bowl-ready.
Breaking News: Mike Klis of the Denver Post with some Peyton Manning news. He's saying the Broncos offering five-years, $60 million.
Something tells me Bud Adams will offer more than that.
Another signing from Adam Schefter:
"Dallas reached agreement with former Bengals G Nate Livings on a 5-year, $19 million contract that includes $6.2 million guaranteed."
Not a great pass-blocker. Decent against the run. An average depth signing for the 'Boys.
From Josina Anderson:
"Brian Overstreet just told me he is expeting Cedric Griffin to ink the deal within the hour. (With the Redskins.)
Keep on doing what you're doing, Daniel Snyder.
UPDATE: From Aaron Wilson:
"League source confirms one-year, $2.5 million contract for Cedric Griffin to Redskins".
Griffin is an underrated corner that excels against the run. He had 67 tackles and one interception as a part of an often victimized Vikings secondary in 2011.
ESPN is currently running a "Pursuit of Manning" video feed.
Yeah, they've got a helicopter with a camera following the white van Manning is in on its way to the Duke facilities.
Come on, guys.
This is O.J. Simpson-esque.
Via Manish Mehta:
"Former Jets’ OLB Jamaal Westerman (non-tendered RFA) has just agreed to terms on a one-year deal with Dolphins, per source. Done deal now."
Westerman's a situational guy, but he's only 27 and provides good linebacker depth for the Dolphins. He had 3.5 sacks last season for Gang Green.
Buffalo Bills GM Buddy Nix talked with Mike Florio on ProFootballTalk Live today and Mark Gaughan's blog on BuffaloNews.com gathered some of his quotes.
He says the team could be done in free agency. Yeah, I think they spent quite a bit yesterday.
