WWE Elimination Chamber 2012: Why Did Christian and Alberto Del Rio Return?

Justin WatryJun 7, 2018

Trust me, I loved being live at the Elimination Chamber event. It was a wonderful event, and it made me appreciate being a supporting (and paying) customer of WWE.

However, the event is now over, and all eyes are on Wrestle Mania XXVIII on April 1, 2012. The show is being built up wonderfully, and I can't wait for the spectacle.

With that being said, one part of the February PPV event is still on my mind. It wasn't even a match. It was a talking segment.

Why did Christian and Alberto Del Rio return?

I understand they should showed their support for Johnny Ace. The two men are backing the interim Raw general manager right now, and that is sure to get them a spot at Mania.

That is great. Christian and Alberto are more than deserving of a match, but that doesn't answer my initial question. What was the reason for at Elimination Chamber?

They came out (along with Mark Henry) and said a few words before posing for a group picture.

OK?

A full week passed by, and nothing was seen (or heard) form either man. Well, another Raw has passed by. Nothing!

Unless I missed it, Christian and Del Rio have done nothing on WWE TV since returning. That is not only disappointing, but I was also expecting such an event.

As I wrote back on Jan. 19, there was no reason for Christian to return.

While his fans were "fantasy booking" his return, I was fearing his return. WWE had nothing going on that would involve him. Bringing him back "just because" was going to do more harm than good.

You can put Del Rio in the same boat.

Going on two weeks later (after Smackdown), both men's returns have made exactly zero sense. No moments. No matches. No announcements!

Just a quick "pop" for the great Wisconsin crowd...and nothing?

I appreciate the moment, but there has to be more to the story that that. Was there a change in plans? Are both men still healing up? If so, why even return unless they are 100 percent healthy?

What do you folks think? Let me know below.
