Joe Ayoob Video: Watch Former Cal QB Make History with Paper Airplane Toss
Joe Ayoob threw a paper airplane and remarkably it wasn't picked off. Instead, it went on to set a world record and make the dozens in attendance jump for joy.
In what I assume was the most glorious moment in Joe Ayoob's life and what I am certain was the pinnacle of paper airplane designer John Collins', the former Cal quarterback launched a piece of folded up paper 226 feet, 10 inches.
That, ladies and gentlemen, is now the Guinness World Record for paper airplanes being thrown. It also happens to be the world record in things that make Joe Ayoob look successful.
Before you remark that besting the previous world record by nearly 20 feet is nothing worth noting, consider how just about everyone in McClellan Air Force Base went Metta World Peace mad after the little plane landed well after the previous mark.
They all cheered like they just witnessed Tim Tebow completing a pass or Jeremy Lin not turning the ball over. I mean, this was genuine, real-life exuberance.
Being a Cal grad myself, I have only seen such joy play out on videos or on TV and have never experienced such amazing feats myself.
Ayoob had the pleasure of taking over the Cal offense after some guy named Aaron Rodgers. I looked up his name on Wikipedia and it seems he is another former Cal grad of note.
Ayoob would go onto to throw 15 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in 2005. I can't recall one of those touchdowns, but I can still feel every last pick that was thrown.
Glad to see he wasn't tasked with throwing the paper airplane to DeSean Jackson, or John Collins would have never had his precious record.
