Daytona 500 2012 Starting Lineup: What We're Watching for in NASCAR's Main Event
The Daytona 500 is one of the wildest racing events in the world, but every year, 43 more drivers try their luck at one of the most dangerous, yet most prestigious venues in the world.
Rain has clouded the beginning of the event, but no matter. When it all is said and done, the result will be one you didnโt see coming. It always is.
All of the following aspects of the race get us excited, and whenever the race starts, they will ensure even the most casual fan is satisfied.
The Wrecks
The best part of the race for many casual fans is when one or all of the cars on the track go spinning out of control. While the drivers themselves hate this, itโs an amazing spectacle to watch.
Most people drive, and the image of 30 cars crashing at once like it was on a crowded freeway near your town is enough for fans to want more. Not to mention the fascination with destruction the good people of this country love.
No one wants the drivers to get hurt, but even the most hardcore fan doesnโt mind seeing a wreck once in a while. You know what they say, rubbinโs racinโ.
The Stars
Dale Earnhardt JrโWith over 100 races standing between the NASCAR veteran and his last victory, Dale Earnhardt Jr. will look to return to Victory Circle at a place that has been so polarizing for the star.
Danica PatrickโThe Queen of NASCAR has become a sensation before she has even proved herself, but no better place than the trial-by-fire known as the Daytona 500.
Carl EdwardsโAfter finishing second to Tony Stewart in a heartbreaking season finale and losing the Championship, Carl Edwards came out determined and won the pole. Letโs see if he can build off that.
The Finish
The ending to every Daytona 500 is memorable, but something about this race brings out the wildman in every driver.
From Clint Bowyer crossing the line on his roof or Richard Pettyโs crew pushing him across the line, these drivers race 500 miles to win by a few inches.
If you like drama and action, there is no better place to be than on the edge of your seat for the last 15-20 laps of the Daytona 500. It will be epic.
