Gerard Pique said that FC Barcelona has a lot more years in world football competition. Pique made his statements in a Barca TV press conference which was published on the FC Barcelona Web site.

Pique took advantage of the press conference to deny any rumors of a rift between him and Pep Guardiola. Pique went on to declare that he has a great working relationship with the Barca manager.

The future of Guardiola was also discussed in the press conference. Pique said that the decision by Guardiola to renew or not renew his contract does not depend on the players.

Pique stated that Guardiola is proud of what the team accomplished and the team returns the favor. The press conference occurred after Barca gave Valencia a thrashing at Camp Nou on February 19, 2012.

It is great to hear Pique make comments that help La Blaugrana and clears any doubt about the club. While it is great to know that Barca defeated Valencia (leaving the opposing team with one point), the club has a long way to go.

Barca has to continue its present course in the remaining La Liga and UEFA Champion League season. According to the FOX Sports Web site, FC Barcelona remains in second place behind Real Madrid with 51 points in the La Liga standings.

What La Blaugrana must do is look at its last match and draw lessons from it. The rest should be maintaining a firm defense and offense.

It remains to be seen what will transpire for FC Barcelona in its next match against Atletico Madrid.
