Tim Tebow: Injuries Will Prevent Tebowmania at AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am

Michael DixonJun 7, 2018

Tebow Time will not be reaching out to the golf course, at least not this year.

According to Jerry Stewart of the Monterey Herald, Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow's chest injuries are going to keep him from participating in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

This is disappointing news. I was looking forward to seeing Tebow bogey each of the first 13 holes, only to come back and make eagles on each of the last five.

Okay, that's not exactly how this tournament works, but go with it.

In all seriousness, Tebow's injury is far too severe to play golf. Mike Klis of the Denver Post reported that, even if the Broncos had beaten the Patriots in the Divisional Round of the playoffs, Tebow would have likely been unavailable for the AFC Championship Game.

You may not have to worry about taking hits in golf, but it does involve a lot of action. Playing with a serious chest injury is nearly impossible.

It is unfortunate that he won't be able to play, especially with Tiger Woods there. Joking aside, those two are both incredible phenomenons and playing at the same golf course would bring a ton of attention to the tournament and the game in general.

Still, football fans will get plenty of chances to see their favorites. According to Stewart, Bill Belichick, Tom Brady, Tony Romo and Herm Edwards are all committed to playing.

However, while there will be plenty of NFL players there and it's the only move he could have made, Tebow not being able to play is disappointing. This is a tournament that is always driven as much by the celebrities as it is the professionals.

As someone who has been there, but also to other tournaments, I know that it attracts different fans. People who go there aren't necessarily golf fans, but also people there looking to get a look at some of their favorite athletes, actors, musicians, etc. In turn, the game is given extra exposure and it subsequently grows.

Say what you will about Tebow, but he's undeniably popular. According to CNBC's Darren Rovell, Tebow was the second-highest jersey seller in 2011 behind only Aaron Rodgers

Tebow doesn't have much of a choice in this one, but that doesn't mean his inclusion in the tournament wouldn't make the tournament a lot more intriguing.
