Chicago Bears: What If Mike Tice Lands Job Head Coaching Job with Raiders?

Just when you thought the Chicago Bears' early offseason couldn't get any weirder, the Chicago Tribune is reporting that Mike Tice is set to interview for the vacant head coaching position in Oakland.

Considering that the Bears just elevated Tice to the offensive coordinator spot in order to keep some form of continuity with the departure of Mike Martz, this is potentially devastating news.

Jay Cutler has already been forced to learn too many new systems in the his short time in the league. Adding another system to the mix could very well spell doom for the young quarterback and the team that gave up so much to bring him to Chicago.

Tice wouldn't run an scheme identical to Martz, but he would keep in place most of the terminology and the ideas behind Martz's system while bringing balance and a better sense of quarterback protection to the position.

The immediate question in Halas Hall has to revolve around what to do next if Tice is offered the job in Oakland. The offensive line is built around Tice's ideals and the offensive system in place would almost certainly have to change if an outside coach was brought in to lead the offense.

Would the Bears look outside or would they look at the possibility—as far-fetched as it may seem—of promoting one of their position coaches to the coordinator position?  

No matter how you slice it, Ted Philips, Tim Ruskell and every candidate for the Bears vacant general manager position has to be wringing their hands and praying that the Raiders organization decides to move in a different direction.
