Tim Tebow: Broncos QB Should Absolutely Avoid Dancing with the Stars Invitation
Tebowing was fun while it lasted. Like planking, it was a fad, something silly for people to do and post online, similar to blogging but less self-absorbed or boring.
Tim Tebow is not a fad, or at least we shouldn't look at him in those terms yet.
While we may question whether his style of play is sustainable over the long haul, we also can't ignore that he beat the Pittsburgh Steelers by throwing the ball down the field, or that John Elway gave him something resembling a vote of confidence by saying that he would be the starter heading into training camp.

But more importantly, Tebow shouldn't look at himself as a fad, especially when everyone and everything will want a piece of him right now.
The latest to come calling? Why, that would be Dancing with the Stars and Karina Smirnoff. From USA Today:
"The Dancing With the Stars regular is making her pitch. Smirnoff and partner J.R. Martinez won this year's competition.
"All I want for my (34th) birthday is for Tim Tebow to dance on Dancing with the Stars," she told People magazine. "Tim is a very talented athlete, that was clear when we saw his performance this past season with Denver....All (that) is missing is to see if he has the dance skills. That would make him an all around athlete and someone that I would love to dance with on the show."
"
Tebow should be worried about tweaking his throwing motion and improving his downfield accuracy this offseason, not learning the waltz.
His preparation this offseason could likely influence the arc of his career—play poorly next season, and Tebow may find himself with a better chance of getting on the field as a fullback than as a quarterback in the future.
What good will knowing the samba be then?
It would have been one thing if Tebow took an invitation to join the CBS crew for their coverage of the Conference Championship this Sunday. That's football-related, after all.
But as Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk noted, Tebow had his reasons for turning down that offer, or most others that have come his way:
"Regardless, Tebow’s response isn’t a surprise. We reported in December that Tebow has been rejecting such opportunities (including an invitation to host Saturday Night Live) because he desperately wants to remain one of the guys.
Even though he most certainly isn’t.
"
No, no he isn't.
And while being "one of the guys" matters somewhat in a locker room, remaining focused on becoming a great quarterback is a whole lot easier when you aren't keeping up with the appearances and endorsements that come with being a fad.
And fads have short shelf lives.
So you aren't a fad yet, Tim Tebow, even if a whole lot of people want to cash in on the fact that you could be.
Dancing of the Stars isn't going anywhere—stay relevant, and they'll want you.
But your chance to be a quarterback in this league will be gone rather quickly if you don't do everything in your power to seize the opportunity you have now.
