Liverpool Transfer News: Debunking Kenny Dalglish's Rumoured January Signings

Allan JiangJun 6, 2018

Don't you just feel like facepalming when you read some of the most ludicrous January transfer rumours linked to Liverpool?

For instance, Kenny Dalglish has managed Liverpool to the second best defence in the Premier League, so why on earth would he want to sign a defender in January?

Especially when he has Martin Kelly and Sebastián Coates ready to step up.

This article will debunk seven of Kenny Dalglish's rumoured January signings.

Chelsea: Salomon Kalou

1 of 7

According to Warren Haughton at talkSPORT, Kenny Dalglish sees Salomon Kalou as a bargain transfer.

Haughton acts as if Dalglish hasn't been watching Chelsea's games.

Kalou has the same nonchalant and lazy mentality as Pegguy Arphexad.

Both players were contempt with being bench warmers.

Yes, Kalou will come cheap, but Liverpool need someone who'll shake the Kop, not someone who'll be willing to pick up an undeserved pay cheque.

CSKA Moscow: Keisuke Honda

2 of 7

According to Crunch Sports, Liverpool are targeting Japanese sensation Keisuke Honda.

Forget the fact that CSKA Moscow have made it clear they will not sell Honda, why would Liverpool buy an injured player?

Barcelona: Éric Abidal

3 of 7

According to the Metro, Liverpool are eyeing up Éric Abidal for a summer move as his contract at Barcelona expires.

Yes, this is a summer transfer, not a January transfer, but you need to know two things.

Firstly, why would Barcelona sell Abidal, having sold Maxwell to Paris Saint-Germain?

Secondly, why would Liverpool need Abidal when José Enrique is so much better than the Frenchman.

You might respond, "well, have Abidal as a backup."

No, give Jack Robinson that duty, instead of signing an over-the-hill and aging Abidal.

Manchester City: Adam Johnson

4 of 7

According to The Independent, Manchester City are willing to loan out Adam Johnson to Liverpool.

What's astonishing about this blatant lie, is that The Independent reported that Johnson recently signed a four-and-a-half year contract with Manchester City.

So, please explain to me the logic for Manchester City to sign Johnson on a long-term contract if they don't even value him as a squad player.

Regarding the loan part, Roberto Mancini is so fixated on rotation and squad depth, that it makes no sense for him to loan out Johnson.

Also, if Manchester City are going to loan one of their players to a Premier League club, it will be to a club in the bottom half of the table.

Sunderland: Stéphane Sessègnon

5 of 7

According to the Metro, Stéphane Sessègnon is having problems convincing his wife and five children to join him in England.

I have no idea why Liverpool have been thrown into the mix because if Sessègnon's family doesn't want to move to Tyne and Wear, why would they move to Merseyside?

Basel: Xherdan Shaqiri

6 of 7

According to Thomas Sunderland at Footybunker.com, Liverpool will bid for Xherdan Shaqiri.

Basel will not let Shaqiri go when they are still in the UEFA Champions League.

Shaqiri will not leave the spotlight of the Champions League to go to Liverpool, who might not even qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season.

Inter Milan: Mauro Zárate (on Loan from Lazio)

7 of 7

According to Duncan Castles at The National, Liverpool see Mauro Zárate as a short-term loan option to cover Luis Suárez's suspension.

The whole point of Lazio loaning Zárate out, was for him to convince Inter Milan that he is worth £12.5 million—which he isn't.

Liverpool have no intentions of signing Zárate as a long-term option (and they shouldn't), so this deal will not happen in January.
