2011 NFL Fantasy Football Week 17: Tight Ends (TE) Rankings and Projections

If you look at Jason Witten’s body of work this season, he’s been a solid top-five fantasy tight end. That said, Witten has failed to score a touchdown since Week 11 and has totaled 47 yards or fewer in four of his last five games.
Factor in that Tony Romo will be playing with a busted hand, and you have a tough decision to make if you’ve been starting Witten weekly this year.
As it stands, I have Witten ranked as the 10th tight end for Week 17, because of the injury and the lack of consistent production over the past month. It seems as though the Cowboys are using their three-headed receiving attack at times and going away from Witten, especially around the red zone. Finding touchdowns with Romo under center has been a big problem for Witten in the past, and it will likely be a problem in the future.
Of course, now that I’m on board with recommending you bench Witten, he will likely have over 100 yards and two touchdowns this week.
At the end of the day, if you feel like you need an upside talent in at tight end to win this week, then by all means keep Witten in the lineup, because he still has talent, and perhaps Romo will lean on him more with his injured hand, especially if he’s reluctant to test his arm on deep routes.
