Is John Cena in a Holding Pattern Until the Road to WrestleMania?

On last night's Raw, Kane revealed his reasoning behind the assaulting of John Cena. The Big Red Monster became philosophical and talked about humans embracing hate because it is their initial impulse. The show went off the air with a mixed reaction from the crowd.

The real question is: Does any of this even matter?

As much as we all want Cena to turn heel, the fact is that the complete turn is very unlikely to happen. Even if something like this occurs, the company would probably wait until their biggest show of the year to make such a change.

So in the long run, what is Kane's objective in relation to John Cena? It seems that he is merely filler until after the Elimination Chamber PPV.

The sole purpose of Kane is to keep Cena busy. With the return of the mask, Kane is now a big enough deal to keep Cena out of the WWE title picture yet still on the more important time slots of the show.

Over the next month, this pointless feud will continue and probably end up in a match at the Royal Rumble. After that, the easy solution is to stick both of them in a WWE title Elimination Chamber match. This gives the creative team the opportunity to put the title on Cena if they feel it is necessary.

For now, however, everything we are watching on Cena's side for the next month will most likely amount to nothing. All Kane is doing is keeping the big cash cow on television.

As for Kane, this feud could lead to one of two scenarios. Chances are he may fizzle out and end up in a meaningless match at WrestleMania.

The other scenario, however, sees him as the Undertaker's opponent.

Kane with the mask would make for a good opponent for the Undertaker, especially if this is going to be the final match of his career. It would bring the storylines of those two full circle before Taker retires.

Everything we have seen from Kane suggests that he will play a larger role in this year's WrestleMania than in years' past. Unfortunately, with the top of the card already stacked with rumored main events, Kane may be an afterthought come April.

On the other hand, Cena will be one of the main selling points of WrestleMania. But until that point, Kane will keep him in this holding pattern until the Road to WrestleMania officially begins.
