WWE News: What Role Will Shawn Michaels Play in WrestleMania XXVIII?

Rob ManiseroCorrespondent IDecember 22, 2011

The rumor mill is currently calling for Undertaker's opponent at WrestleMania to be Triple H. With this being their third WrestleMania encounter, however, the WWE will have to work at finding a creative direction to keep things fresh.

Enter Shawn Michaels.

According to sescoops.com, the Heartbreak Kid will be playing a major role if this match takes place, and he will have the authority to end the streak:

Shawn Michaels is scheduled to be the special referee for the Undertaker vs. Triple H match at WrestleMania. Since Triple H and Shawn Michaels have both failed twice at ending the streak, it lends something to the idea that they could work together to screw Undertaker.

Triple H might put his career on the line against the streak. The Undertaker vs. Triple H match will be promoted as the No. 2 match on the card, behind Cena vs. Rock.

It seems different, but I'm not sold on the idea.

First, the ideal match for the Undertaker at WrestleMania XXVIII would be against a younger opponent who would receive a huge push from just being involved in that high-profile match. I've mentioned previously options such as Dolph Ziggler and Wade Barrett. At this stage in Undertaker's career, it serves no purpose in fighting someone we have already seen. Twice.

Second, would anyone believe that Shawn Michaels would screw over the Undertaker? Sure, him and Triple H have a deep connection, but after 19 victories at WM, having the streak end on anything but a clean win would be a sham.

This is an intriguing idea, but it's time to move on from Triple H and Shawn Michaels. If the Undertaker has one more great match left in him, let's see him use it to elevate a young star to great heights.
