TJ Ford may not be the biggest name in basketball or even close to it, but he is still a great addition to an already good team in the San Antonio Spurs.

The Spurs did not add any really big names to their team to help them in winning another NBA title, but they still made some moves, TJ Ford being one the their best ones.

Read on to find out why TJ Ford is the perfect backup for Tony Parker

Instant Impact

TJ Ford has been in the league for seven years now. He knows the game of basketball and he knows what it takes to play in the NBA.

Ford has put up great numbers in his career, which includes 11.4 PPG and 5.9 APG. These numbers are exactly what the San Antonio Spurs need in their backup point guard position.

Although he will most likely not put up as great of numbers, he will still contribute right away for the Spurs.

Accepts His Role

TJ Ford knows where he stands in the league. He is not an All-Star and he is not going to be the best point guard to ever play the game of basketball.

Ford may be a starter for some teams, but he is nowhere near the talent level of Tony Parker. It does not seem like Ford will be the kind of player that demands more minutes, especially on a team that already has one of the best point guards in the NBA.

Ford is obviously going to be a bench player on the Spurs and he is okay with that. Ford joined the Spurs as Parker's backup, not to be the starting point guard on the team.

Great Player

Ford has the potential to start at point guard for a lot of teams in the NBA—just ask the last three teams that he played for. Although he did not start every game for these teams, he was still a starter for most of them.

Ford is finally going to be healthy, which means his production should go up and he will finally be able to finish a full season of basketball.

When Ford is healthy, he is capable of putting up double-digits in points and a good amount of assists. Ford is a true point guard that will backup Parker very nicely.

The 28-year-old still has a lot of basketball left in him.
