A New England Patriots Fan's Five New Year's Resolutions

Glenn CardSenior Analyst IDecember 31, 2008

I’m inviting my fellow Patriots fans to join me in the traditional New Years resolutions. I'm sure that these are some resolutions that we can all keep. I tried to get a list of 10 but fell short at five. If you have worthy resolutions, feel free to let me know.

1)  I will not doubt my team no matter how many players go on IR.

Let’s face it. We all had our doubts from the very first quarter of the very first game. I knew that the Patriots would play above .500, but at that moment, I could not believe that they would be in the playoff hunt at the end of the year.

2)  I will never believe anything I read on ESPN without confirming it elsewhere.

I’m guilty. I have let ESPN ruin my day more than once, and I’ll never let it happen again. For now on, I’ll check with my buddies on b/r first before I kick the dog, yell at the wife, or smash my remote.

3)  I will pay more attention to College football.

Can you believe how many first-round picks actually played and played well this year?

4)  I will be nicer to retirees.

Are you kidding me? I’m going to be bringing my Wii down to the retirement home and getting those old guys off their duffs. I got to get them ready for next year because they could be recruited to help out the Patriots secondary, defensive line or line backer crew.

Hell, if we work hard enough in the offseason I might even have somebody ready for a shift or two at running back. (This is a personal thank you to Junior Seau and Roosevelt Colvin.)

5)  I will pay more attention to the Jets, Dolphins and Bills.

They are getting good now. The AFC East is the place to be if you want to see strong teams in a very tough division. We beat up on each other and then take it out on everybody else.
