The Chick-Fil-A Bowl at The Georgia Dome in Atlanta, GA
Georgia Tech (9-3) vs. LSU (7-5)
December 31, 2008 7:30 EST The Line: LSU +4
The last college football game of 2008 shapes up to be a decent one. For Georgia Tech, the get a chance to spend New Year's Eve at home. For LSU, they have a chance to close out the year where they won their second National Title of the decade on a field where they have had a good deal of success.
There were some doubters when Paul Johnson took over the helm at Georgia each and many thought his option offense wouldn't work in the bigger conferences in college football. Not only did Johnson's Yellow Jackets get it done within their conference, the ACC, they beat their arch rival Georgia in the game they call "clean, old fashioned hate."
While Georgia seemed to have things clicking on all cylinders at the end of the season, it will be interesting to see if the momentum has held up since over a month ago when they last played.
For LSU, they started the season and played much of the first half of the season like the champions they are. While they weren't getting blown out, the Tigers lost three of their last four though I would say the game at Alabama and the Arkansas game were both games that they were in position to win.
I think LSU suffered the same fate as a lot of other past national champions since Juniors became eligible for the NFL draft, that as good as a team is, they'll be that more more players turning pro early. And while on the starting level we don't see huge drop offs, the problems arise in the lack of experienced depth that can contribute.
