WWE TLC 2011: The Real Story Behind the Randy Orton-Wade Barrett Rivalry
Following Wade Barrett's loss at Night of Champions 2010, he was hot on the trail for the WWE Championship. It just so happens that his TLC opponent, Randy Orton, was the champion at the time. Barrett battled Orton for the title on three separate occasions.
John Cena played a huge part in the losses that Barrett was faced with.
Bragging Rights was a win for Barrett without actually winning the title. Survivor Series saw a biased referee pushing Barrett into an RKO, giving Orton the win. Then on Raw, Cena returned after being fired, only to interfere in another title match.
Barrett never gained the WWE title because of the relationship Orton and Cena had during these times
Now that Orton and Barrett are members of the SmackDown roster and Cena cannot interfere, Barrett has taken it upon himself to resurrect their rivalry.
Prior to Survivor Series, Barrett began his Barrett Barrage and has taken out just about everyone on the WWE roster. Since he knows that not many of them will take him to the upper echelon, he has moved onto the Apex Predator.
The real story behind the resurrection of the Orton-Barrett Rivalry is all about becoming the top star in the WWE.
Orton has been on top his entire career and was the youngest champion in WWE history. He has dominated as a face and heel superstar and became a feared man to be in the ring with.
Some would argue that Orton is a future Hall of Fame inductee and could very well be one of the best wrestlers of his generation.
Barrett has never actually had that opportunity and in fact became a forgotten man when the Nexus disbanded and he was sent to SmackDown.
People forgot that he led a powerful group to championships and that they struck fear in everyone's hearts. They also forgot that Barrett took out the Big Show in his debut on SmackDown.
Now it seems as though he needs to make a big impact to be noticed again. He began his Barrett Barrage, but something is standing in his way: the Viper, Randy Orton.
By defeating Orton, Barrett believes that he will become the No. 1 contender for the World Heavyweight Championship.
At TLC Barrett will once again receive the chance to get his hands on Orton and prove himself. He will battle Randy Orton in a Tables Match that could make or break his career and his goal of becoming England’s first ever World Heavyweight Champion.
