Oakland Insider: Could Michael Bush, Bill Parcells Lead Raiders' Future?

Hello sports fans, this is another edition of Oakland Insider, and what an article to read!

Hot topic? Yes! The Oakland Raiders are stirring up some serious conversations around the Nation, and it's hot.

Oakland capped off the last game of their season beating the despised Bucs, 31-24. Chucky wasn't very happy about losing to his old team and missing the playoffs, but we the people of the Raider Nation were!

Michael Bush had his best game of his professional career Sunday against the Bucs. With running backs Justin Fargas and Darren McFadden banged up, Bush got the nod, and boy was he up for the opportunity.

Bush's performance was a big surprise; we hadn't seen much from him since Week Two against Kansas City. What a job he did, though, totaling 177 yards on the ground with only 27 attempts. Did I mention two touchdowns as well, with one going 67 yards to the house? Bush was on fire in Tampa!

What's in store for Oakland in 2009? There are many questions to be answered and we can only speculate until it all unfolds. One thing is for sure, the Raiders need a GM.

OK all my fellow sports fans (Raider Nation fans) try something with me...Close your eyes and image Bill Parcells walking into Al Davis's office. Davis extends his old wrinkled hand and Bill shakes it with some hesitation.

Davis says "Bill, I have come to a point in my life where I want to see some wins before I pass into the night."

Parcells says "OK, what does this have to do with me?"

AND....Davis says "I want to offer you a no-holds-barred GM position with a no-interruption clause, meaning my hands are completely off and the team is all yours—JUST WIN BABY!"

After a few silent moments, Parcells says "I'm in."

Wow, what a thing to think about, Raider fans. This team with the talent they already have, plus what Parcells would bring to the table, what a dream that would be. I know it sounds really far-fetched, but what the hell, sounds great.

Until next time, Raider fans, this is Farris Gunning II with Oakland Insider, and farewell to all and GO silver and black!

This isn't a thread for a GM, this is a thread about Bush, the GM part was a comical input in this article. gn is another copy cat hidding himself and making rude comments on all posts. I can take any constructive critisism, but lets keep it clean is all I'm saying. Personal attacks make people look very immature.

Michael Bush should be the starting RB in 2009. I'm not saying this because he ran all over the Buccaneers either. Look what he did in the Chiefs game in week 2. Just look at what he's done every time he gets an opportunity to run the ball. He gets yards & he gets them with violence. 2 Years ago before the leg injury...Bush was a projected top 10 draft pick. He was one of the nation's to RB to come out of college. I liked him at Louisville & I Like him even more now. He's better now than before the leg injury. He's an every down RB that punishes the defense. Start Him! Let Darren McFadden compliment him in the running game. Not sure what to do with Justin Fargas. Fargas runs well between the 20's... but he can't score! He always gets stuffed at the goal line & he becomes ineffective in the red-zone. He does possess great leadership & courage but that's not enough to be the starting RB. We should start Micheal Bush. I'm not surprised at what I saw from Michael Bush. I've been lobbying for him to start all season. Wait until next year when FB Oren O'Neal comes back...Michael Bush is going to bring the pain!

ab-so-lutely!!! Bush the Starter, McFadden to come in and help rest Bush while catching the ball on short plays, maybe mixing in the Wildcat with those two would work also. We could use Fargas for some trade bait or maybe even a couple draft picks. Nice comments Steve, the way it's supposed to be.

(FARRIS) I don't know about the whole "WILD CAT" offense thing. That trend has died. I don't expect to see much of that from any team next season. It was a "FAD". Something new may come about though...some new trend of Offense. Maybe the "Option". I doubt it though. As far as trading Justin Fargas goes...he was a 3rd round pick I think & we won't get more than that for him...if that. But it is an option. I would like for the Raiders to try to deal QB Andrew Walter. He wants out of Oakland. We may be able to get a 5th round pick for him. We currently have no picks in the 5th round.

I agree it's a Fad, but Oakland could perfect that with Bush and Mcfadden, but prob not...true... I would love to see them used for there talents, RUN BUSH and use Mcfadden as a scat back, deadly two-some...BUT we need a GOOD O-Line or they will both get smashed... Cheers

Nice article Farris. I'd love to see Davis reel in the Big Tuna. Al would need to give him a lot of leeway to reshape the organization. Maybe he's finally ready to see his team's fortunes change and will bait the hook to Parcells' liking.

By the way, I had to vote for Michael Bush above. If you are basing the poll on pure potential, then I'd select DMac, but we didn't see him healthy enough to show that promise off in 2008. If the Raiders can get a decent draft pick for Fargus, I say trade him while he still offers value. Hate to see the tough kid go, be Oakland's running back stable overfloweth.

Thanks Kirk, reeling in the big tuna would be cool, but prob a pipe dream... Let's get the most we can for Fargas now while he has value...exactly

Reggie Bush? Fargus? That's Michael Bush & Justin Fargas. Your not a Raiders fan are you Kirk? I've been seeing a lot of so-called Raiders fans constantly misspelling players names. I'm not saying that Kirk is not a Raiders Fan...what I am saying is that it makes us Raiders fans look bad when you don't know your own players & how to spell their names. I hope that you just had a "Brain Fart" & that you don't actually think that Reggie Bush plays for the Raiders. I'll excuse the Fargus... chalk that one up to misspelling.

Steve: It was simply a sleepy slip-up after a long day. My sincerest apologies to Raider fans far and wide for slumbering at the keyboard and soiling the Nation's reputation as the most knowledgeable family of fans in the land. Apparently in this hazy, catatonic state, I tapped out "Reggie" instead of "Michael", a boneheaded error if ever there was one. Henceforth, I'll post only after drinking a double-shot espresso (or whiskey depending on my mood). As self punishment, I'm going to put myself in a writing timeout for 24 hours (and a good night's sleep). Buenas noches.

I have wondered since McFadden was drafted if the tandem would be he and Michael Bush.I half expected Fargas wouldn't be on the roster on opening day. I and many others thought that if Bush could return to form and be the player he was prior to breaking his leg his senior year, then Fargas would become expendable. Bush would have won the Heisman if not for that injury and would've been drafted #1. He has recovered 100% and proven that he is a stud RB and could start for any team. So we are back to the original question; should the Raiders trade Justin Fargas? Bush is clearly not satisfied in his current role. Nor should he be. So while I love and respect Fargas' heart and passion, I think it might be prudent to trade him. And make way for Michael Bush. There is just njot room for three guys of that caliber on one roster. We know McFadden is a lock, so he doesn't factor in.. Fargas and Bush both deserve to be starters as well but there isn't room for both, in my opinion.

i agree with the kraken! a 3 back system has worked pretty good for NY! bush would be perfect as that second half hammer that runs over the defense once they're already tired.

and i agree with the majority that this article was not worth reading. the comments were more entertaining! sorry farris, but you're just not a writer.

Any Raider fan with the right mind set isn't going to buy into the notion that Bill Parcells is going to take the GM position. What Al Davis has done is alienate the the Raiders Orginization. No high profile coach or up and comer is going to take this job ! Al has complete control and will not relinquish it til he is confirmed dead and in the ground ! What Al is going to continue to do is throw money at things and rule with a so called iron fist. He will surround himself with loyal minions and yes men. Al Davis is the Raiders which is sadly a shell of its former self. Al's paranoia and senility has really driven this franchise into the ground ! The die hard Raider fans like I are spoon fed a bunch of crap year in and year out. Al says he is commited to winning but every damn year his business dealings, and management style has done nothing but choke the life out of every Raider fan ! The Colluseum does not sell out for a reason which is quite obvious. The Raiders play like shit ! The only consistancy that I have seen in the last 6 years is ineptness and futility! There are some great guys on the Raiders team who sadly are being ruined. Nhamdi Asoumougha is a great player who deserves a long term deal and I know is jumping at the chance to hop the next train out of Oakland! Michael Bush a great running back for some reason was benched because he didn't want to play fullback and showed greatness at tailback. Oakland signed a great tight end in Zach Miller, and he too will be gone once his contract is up and the bigger money is offered elswhere. There are so many talented players on Oakland's squad and there is no one to lead them, nobody, of character to show them the way. Until Al decides to surround himself with knowledgable people who know the MODERN game and he gets a coaching staff that are competant and leader of men, The Raiders will continue to dissappoint us. True Raider fans are falling by the wayside and jumping ship. Me, I refuse to give up I still hold on to faith and hope, but in the end what is it going to get me ? Lets see what answer Al comes up with. I guarantee it will be more of the same from the Silver and Black

As an Eagles' fan, I have to say Michael Bush is my hero. The drive where the Raiders ran the ball 9 times consecutively to Bush and he ran for about 60 yards and a touchdown was amazing. Thanks you Raiders for beating Tampa for the Eagles.

We should flip Justin Fargas. Get draft pick for him. Here's the bottom line... Michael Bush scores TD's. Justin Fargas doesn't! I've said it from week 2 this season that Michael Bush should be the starter...then in week 2 they play him & he trashes the Chiefs. He was on fire in pre-season. Bush should be starting next year. He's younger/healthier & more talented than Justin Fargas. I admire Fargas's work ethic & heart...but he doesn't score TD's & he gets stuffed in the redzone constantly. Michael Bush scores TD's & runs with violence...start Bush...end of conversation.

Bush proved that he can carry the load as well as big-play capability. He along with a healthy Darren McFadden would be one of the best tandems in the league. Those two could wear teams down and then we should use a rested Justin Fargas to close out the game. I don't thing Fargas will be traded because other teams wouldn't be willing to pick up his high salary.

The entire thing about Bill Parcells isn't all that far fetched as people may think. Bill Parcells is free to leave the Dolphins because of a clause in his contract that allows him to walk if Wayne Huizenga were to sell the team and that is exactly what is going to happen in mid-January.

Parcells has tremendous respect for Al Davis and I am sure that he would listen to what Mr. Davis had to say if he was interested in bring him on board.

roc thats a great point about Parcells. As long as Al would give him a no holds barred contract giving him full control, he very well might take the job. I'm not so sure Al would do that, but he must do something becasue the Raiders are a joke right now. great job Roc

Although I'd love to have Parcell's as our GM, I think that it's pure fantasy to think that Al Davis would relinquish the amount of power that he would need to bring Parcell's to oakland.
