Five Tips To Survive The MMA Holiday Season: A Fan's Guide

Nick ColonSenior Analyst IDecember 25, 2008

Let me begin by saying on behalf of everyone here at B/R and as an MMA fan, I'd like to wish all of you out there a very happy holiday season. I hope things have gone well in all of your lives over the past few weeks, and continues on into the new year.

Now down to business.

Over the next few weeks, and in the next month or so in particular, MMA will have a very large impact in the common MMA fan's life. From Ultimate 2008, to two Superfights in the last two weeks of January, MMA is at an all-time high. I'm here to prepare you for the next month of great fights with ingenious ideas and expectations. Get ready average MMA fan, as you may want to pull out a notebook and pen to take down some of these notes.

1) Be sure to order UFC 92.

This is sure to be a night full of entertainment, with the starting bout likely being a grudge match between Quinton "Rampage" Jackson vs Wanderlei "The Axe Murderer" Silva, and the finishing bout a "TUF" title match between Forrest Griffin and Rashad Evans. Should be a 9 out of 10 for the holiday rating system.

2) Enjoy New Years Eve K-1 Style

Almost as good as finishing December with UFC 92 is K-1's edition, featuring Gesias "JZ" Calvancante facing off against Joachim "Hellboy" Hansen. My personal favorite will come prior to that fight, when Shinya Aoki and Eddie Alvarez face off in the ring. Bound to be a great night, with some Chinese food and alcohol (if of age that is).

3) What to watch...UFC 93 or Affliction II?

Have no fear, Tivo is here. Just kidding. If you have to make a choice, then it really comes down to your preference. If you're looking for overall production value, then I'd slightly lean towards the UFC. However, you cannot possibly lose if you decide to watch Affliction's card, with Barnett, Arlovski, Horodecki, Lauzon (Dan), and Fedor. I'll be watching the UFC card personally, but I'll be sure to check in with Affliction as well.

4) Buy many snacks to enjoy with UFC 94

This is bound to be a great night of fights, following up January 17th's Superfight of Fedor vs Arlovski with GSP vs Penn. No matter the outcome, it seems like 2009 may be year of the Superfights if this trend continues. Enjoy Superbowl weekend.

5) Get ready for an outstanding 2009

With a great start to the year in many different organizations, 2009 is expected to be a great year for MMA fans to watch. Possibilities may arise everywhere, to the point where Fedor vs Lesnar may come where Alvarez vs Penn may be in the works...where we may see the impossible just become a little more possible.

Hope you all enjoy this holiday MMA season.
