2011 Bowl Games: Betting Odds for BCS Games

1 of 6

The No. 1 LSU Tigers and No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide are set to face off for a second time this year in the Allstate BCS National Championship Game on Jan. 9, 2012, inside the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans.

Early wagering is already taking place on the Southeastern Conference showdown inside Las Vegas sports books up and down the strip, while other BCS games are also drawing plenty of action.

Let's take a closer look at the betting odds for this bowl season's biggest games.

Oregon Ducks vs. Wisconsin Badgers

2 of 6

The Oregon Ducks won the Pac-12 Conference title and have opened up as five-point favorites against the Wisconsin Badgers in the Rose Bowl.

From a handicapping perspective, Wisconsin will have plenty of its players seeking redemption for a 21-19 loss to the TCU Horned Frogs in this game a year ago.

Oregon's convincing 53-30 win over the Stanford Cardinal as 2.5-point road underdogs is going to carry some weight with favorite bettors, as Wisconsin possesses a similar running game.

Don't forget that the Ducks were actually three-point neutral-site favorites against the LSU Tigers in their 40-27 season-opening loss inside Cowboys Stadium.

    Handicapper Line:  Oregon Ducks (-1)

Las Vegas Odds:  Oregon Ducks (-5)

Oklahoma State Cowboys vs. Stanford Cardinal

3 of 6

The main angle to examine when handicapping this game is obviously Oklahoma State's state-of-mind due to being left out of the national title game.

Playing in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl is definitely an honor, but you can tell that Cowboys head coach Mike Gundy was making a major pitch to play for it all after blowing out the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday night.

The Stanford Cardinal were ultra-impressive in handing the Virginia Tech Hokies a 40-12 blowout loss in the Orange Bowl last year as 3.5-point favorites.

Heisman Trophy candidate Andrew Luck was superb in that game, throwing for 287 yards and four touchdowns with a single interception.

Contrasting styles usually make for great bowl games.

Handicapper Line: Oklahoma State Cowboys (-6)

Las Vegas Odds: Oklahoma State Cowboys (-3)

Michigan Wolverines vs. Virginia Tech Hokies

4 of 6

Michigan Wolverines quarterback Denard Robinson should be well-rested in facing the Virginia Tech Hokies in the Allstate Sugar Bowl inside the Louisiana Superdome on Jan. 3 in New Orleans.

That's a major plus for Maize and Blue bettors.

Virginia Tech's two losses came against the same opponent, dropping a 38-10 contest to the Clemson Tigers in the ACC championship game on Saturday.

The Hokies are known for being one of the best underdogs in college football, while the Wolverines tallied a 6-3 against-the-spread mark as a favorite this year.

    Handicapper Line: Michigan Wolverines (-4)

    Betting Odds: Michigan Wolverines (-1)

Clemson Tigers vs. West Virginia Mountaineers

5 of 6

The Clemson Tigers snapped a two-game losing streak in capturing a resounding 38-10 win over the Virginia Tech Hokies to win the ACC title.

Quarterback Tajh Boyd was magnificent in leading the seven-point neutral-site underdogs, throwing for 240 yards and three touchdowns.

The West Virginia Mountaineers closed out their 2011 regular season on a three-game winning streak, but the Big East Conference isn't exactly much to write about this year.

Oddsmakers sent out a very interesting number—be careful.

    Handicapper Line: Clemson Tigers (-2.5)

Las Vegas Odds: Clemson Tigers (Pick)

Alabama Crimson Tide vs. LSU Tigers

6 of 6

The Alabama Crimson Tide will get their shot at redemption in the Allstate BCS National Championship Game, dropping a 9-6 contest to the LSU Tigers as 5.5-point home favorites on Nov. 5.

Oddsmakers have established the Tigers as a 2.5-point favorite, which is quite surprising due to the rematch taking place on a neutral field.

Total bettors will find that the number has been sent out just 1.5 points lower than the original meeting, sitting at 40 across the board.

More on this game in the upcoming weeks.

    Handicapper Line: LSU Tigers (-1)

Las Vegas Odds: LSU Tigers (-2.5)
