NHL Players Going Out With a Bang

With the year coming to a close and holiday season knocking on our door, fantasy hockey owners often go in “sleep mode” when it comes to making roster adjustments.  Now is the perfect time to take advantage of your competition’s apathy and make some shrewd roster moves.

First up is Florida Center Stephen Weiss.  Weiss has eight points (three goals and five assists) in his past twelve games.  He has a +7 plus/minus rating.  Those numbers should increase with his easy end-of-the-year schedule.

First up is a home-and-home with NHL basement dweller Tampa Bay on Dec. 26-27.  He has a tougher matchup against Montreal on Dec. 29 before finishing against the lowly New York Islanders on New Year’s Eve.  Weiss is owned in just 6 percent of Yahoo leagues.

Another player to target is Anaheim RW Bobby Ryan.  With Teemu Selanne out for four-to-six weeks, Ryan will get a chance to skate with Anaheim’s First Line.  On the season Ryan has 14 points (5 goals and 9 assists) in 16 games.

Additionally, he gets to face some pretty soft competition as the Ducks face Dallas on Dec. 27; St. Louis on Dec. 28; and Columbus on New Year’s Eve.  Ryan is owned in just 17 percent of Yahoo leagues.

Finally, Phoenix Defenseman Keith Yandle could be a nice contributor as 2008 slips away.  He has 15 points (one goal and 14 assists) in 30 games and a +3 plus/minus rating.

He has a home-and-home against the Los Angeles Kings on Dec. 26 and Saturday December 27th followed by Colorado at home on New Year’s Eve.  He should start 2009 off right, too, with a nice matchup against the New York Islanders on Jan. 2.  He is also owned in just 6 percent of Yahoo leagues.

There you have it.  Three low-profile players with soft matchups through the holidays.  Now that I saved you some research you can get to the celebrating.
