NFL Power Rankings: Cellar Dwellars That Must Make Coaching Moves

When a team does poorly over an extended period of time, it's generally time for a coaching change. It's not always that the coach is bad, but something he is doing isn't working. 

That's the case with these teams. They have all been well below their standards for far too long. Because of that, they all need to find a different man to lead the team in 2012 and beyond.

San Diego Chargers

This one is about as obvious as could possibly be. The Chargers are constant underachievers. But in the first three years of Turner's tenure, San Diego always found a way to finish the season strongly and make the playoffs. 

Clearly, that's not happening this year. It didn't happen last year either. While other teams in the division are raising their performances, this is a winnable division and the Chargers aren't anywhere near it.

They need to bring in a guy who can make them play hard and well for 16 games. Before this year, it was the early part of the season that got to them. Now, it's the middle-late season.

It doesn't matter which games they struggle in, this performance is unacceptable for a team with as much talent as San Diego has.

Miami Dolphins

Recent hot streak not withstanding, the Dolphins are one of the worst teams in the NFL. Tony Sparano has only gotten increasingly worse since his first year in Miami, which is a terrible sign for a coach. 

Some coaches come in and achieve results in their first year, but as they bring in new coaches and personnel things start to get worse from then on. That's what happened with Sparano.

They need to find a guy to come in and spark the fledgling offense. Yes, they are heating up, and the talent is there, but a new coach needs to come in and give them the right motivation.

Arizona Cardinals

Technically, the Cardinals aren't a "cellar dweller," but they are one of the worst teams in the league. Let's look at what's happened since Kurt Warner retired.

In 2010, the NFC West was probably the worst division in the league's history. No team finished at or above .500, but the Cardinals finished in last place. 

Now, the 49ers are well above .500, but the Cardinals won't come anywhere near that point at the end of the season. 

Even with Warner, the defense was suspect and the running game was nonexistent. With Warner gone for two seasons, not nearly enough has been done to improve the team. That falls on Ken Whisenhunt.
