The WWE fans have seen an excellent year of wrestling and storyline buildups, from Undertaker versus Triple H to Orton’s fierce rivalry with Christian to The Rock and Cena trying to outdo one another before their highly anticipated match at WrestleMania 28. With such a strong year of pro wrestling from the WWE, wrestling fans expect an absolute barnburner to cap off 2011. The best way to end the year with a bang is to have a Fatal-4 Way TLC match at TLC for the WWE title.
2011 has been the year of CM Punk, from being the leader of Nexus to almost leaving the WWE to
becoming a two-time WWE champion. Punk has been a hell of a performer and has been in some high-profiled main-event matches all year long, but now he has to cap off 2011 with a strong performance and being in a TLC match will do just that.
TLC matches are dangerous but they are action-packed and they get a huge reaction from the WWE fans. Punk’s finest moments have been when in a high-pressured situation and TLC could provide that platform to prove why he is one of the top stars in the WWE today.
Now the WWE has to put some serious competition in this match in order to not only put over
Punk, but to put over how far the product has come since last year.
Now in my opinion, I believe that the three challengers have to be the three biggest names on Raw right now: Alberto Del Rio, The Miz and John Cena. All three men have history with Punk and all three superstars can put on one hell of a performance, especially if it is for the richest prize in all of the WWE. Those three guys all have a personal saying to the WWE title and I can defend each man’s spot in this potential high-profiled main event.
Alberto Del Rio is one of the biggest draws as a heel right now. The man has been in the main-event scene since debuting last year and he has been in a quality feud with both CM Punk and John Cena since August. Del Rio is a solid performer in the ring and he put on a heck of a performance last year at TLC in his Fatal 4-Way TLC match for the World Heavyweight Championship. Del Rio could be a strong contender for the title and he would be a quality pick to be placed in the match.
The Miz has been simply “Awesome” in 2011. The Miz was WWE champion for well over four
months and then has been in the main-event picture as a heel bucking the system when Triple H became the COO of the company. The Miz formed a tag team with R-Truth and they were headlining shows for two months including at Survivor Series. Miz betrayed R-Truth last Monday and is now looking to find the glory he had back when he was WWE champion.
The Miz probably will be placed in a mini-feud with Cena and placing him back in title contention is the right thing to do. Miz has experience in TLC and can perform very well in the main event. The Miz needs a push again as a heel and putting him in this type of match will do the trick.
John Cena is the guy that generates more fan reaction than any other superstar on the roster right now. The guy is a lock for the WWE title contention every month and it just makes sense to place him in this style of match. Cena has history with all three superstars and he can be placed in a quality feud with any one of them if the WWE decides to go down that route. I believe Cena will be the added star power to excite the WWE Universe and really provide some quality spots.
Overall Cena will soon be focusing towards WrestleMania as he battles The Rock in an “Icon vs. Icon” match, so he may be placed in a mini-feud with Miz until then, so have him focus on the “Awesome” one in this match but not end up the victor.
If I was a betting man, I would pick CM Punk to retain his WWE title in this match because he is a shooting star right now and generates ratings as the champion. Punk is a quality worker and could prove that in this matchup. I am hoping the WWE does the smart thing here and puts this match as its main event for the pay-per-view because it would draw interest and it could be a Match of the Year contender. So we will see if this idea comes true or if the WWE will go down another route. If the WWE is smart, however, they will take this idea and turn it into a money-making main event for the TLC pay-per-view.
