Week 12 Start Em Sit Em: Kevin Smith, Ryan Grant and Fantasy Studs to Start

Donald WoodNov 23, 2011

Most fantasy football leagues are within three weeks of their playoffs beginning. This is the time of the year that can make the people that loved fantasy football hate it more than anything else.

There is nothing worse than investing all of your energy and time into your fantasy team and watching it spiral out of control and miss the playoffs. There is not enough booze to drown those sorrows.

Thatโ€™s why if you are still holding on to fantasy playoff dreams, hit the waiver wire hard and come out with Detroitโ€™s Kevin Smith, Green Bayโ€™s Ryan Grant or Washingtonโ€™s Jabar Gaffney.

Kevin Smithโ€”In one of the greatest single-game performances since Barry Sanders hung up the cleats, Detroit Lions running back Kevin Smith blew the doors off the NFL.

Not only did Smith rush 16 times for 140 yards and two touchdowns, he caught four passes for 61 yards and another touchdown.

With Jahvid Best missing another game because of a concussion and Maurice Morris posing little threat to steal the starting job, Smith could be the late season pickup you ride to a championship.

Ryan Grantโ€”The Green Bay Packers have the most dangerous pass attack since Tom Brady and Randy Moss were ruling the roost, but they still lack the running game to them unstoppable.

With injuries to running back James Starks' knee and ankle, the majority of the carries will fall onto former 1,000 yard rusher Ryan Grant.

Even if Starks plays, expect Grant to see at least 15 carries. While he has been set up to succeed and the risk will be worth the reward, just remember that anytime you depend on Ryan Grant, itโ€™s a risk.

Jabar Gaffneyโ€”The Washington Redskins have looked for a wide receiver to take the No. 1 receiver spot while Santana Moss was hurt. They found their man in Jabar Gaffney.

While Moss may be trying to come back this week, his broken hand will keep him from being anything more than a decoy on Sunday against Seattle.

Rex Grossman likes to build a rapport with his wide receivers, so if Gaffney is getting plenty of looks, expect that to continue.
