Rajon Rondo Talks to Bleacher Report About the NBA Lockout

Ethan NorofNov 23, 2011

Rajon Rondo put on a show for his fans at Harvard during his charity basketball game.

He tossed multiple pairs of shoes into the crowd, flung his wristbands to hoop heads who packed the gym to see him play and thanked those in attendance for coming out and supporting a good cause.

After the fans left the building, Rondo addressed the media huddled around him with a simple question.

"So what y'all doin' with your time off?"

Clearly exasperated by the continued offseason, Rondo knew questions about the lockout were forthcoming.

When asked what he'd been doing with his time, Rondo said "just enjoying time with my family, just working out, traveling early in the summer, been back home in Kentucky and in Boston."

The difference between this season and previous years for the point guard was that he was speaking to the media in a Harvard skybox rather than the Boston locker room.

This is a different kind of feel for Rondo, and frankly it's a strange feeling for everybody involved as the lockout continues to linger.

"I went to the last meeting in New York, and I think we had a pretty good meeting. Lot of guys showed up from different teams," Rondo replied when asked about the NBPA's decision to disband.

He was then asked how he felt about the deal from a personal vantage point.

"Me personally, I didn't think it was a fair deal, but I can't get into exactly what the deal was. But I just didn't think it was a fair deal."

Despite that view, Rondo remains optimistic that a deal can be made between the players and owners in the near future.

"Yes I am, everybody's itching to play basketball, from both sides. The owners want to see us playing and the guys want to be out there playing. Hopefully we can come to some type of agreement before it's too late."

That's the question running through many minds right now. At what point is it going to be too late to save the 2011-12 season before it is wiped from the calendar in its entirety?

Rather than sitting down at the negotiating table with one another, the two sides have engaged in a glorified war of egos through the media.

Rondo offered a slightly different view of how things have fared thus far.

"Unless you're actually in the meeting, you hear different things once it's adjourned, and I think people on both sides know what's going on, (it's a) simple matter of compromising."

While Rondo remains optimistic that a deal will get done and basketball will be played, he acknowledged that he's flirted with the idea of going overseas with former teammate Kendrick Perkins.

"You never know, I'm still here. Probably won't make that decision until January, me and Perk have talked about package deals. Right now we're just enjoying our time."

January has been a popular target month for several players considering a venture overseas, and it's no surprise considering that's the point in time when it would become very difficult to have even an abbreviated season.

So what's next for Rondo?

"Enjoy this holiday, Thanksgiving. Great time of year."

Let's hope the precursor to the holiday season comes with the two sides attempting to salvage the campaign.
