2012 NFL Mock Draft: Latest Updates on Andrew Luck and More Top Prospects

Andrew Luck lost his second game in two years to the Oregon Ducks. He returned to The Farm at Stanford to complete his education and to win a national championship.

There is still an outside chance the Cardinal get in, but Luck is likely going to settle for a Pac-12 title and another BCS game.

It doesn't look like Luck will get the trifecta the way Cam Newton did last year, but as Meatloaf once said, "two outta three ain't bad."

Luck is still the top prospect in the country and has a good shot at the Heisman Trophy. He is, however, in damn tight race with Alabama running back Trent Richardson.

Richardson, a Top Five prospect in his own right, is the best player on the No. 2 team in the nation. The Crimson Tide could be heading for a BCS title berth despite not even winning their conference, and a lot of that has to do with Richardson carrying a young offense.

Those are just two of the nation's top prospects. Here is an updated mock draft and the latest on some of the others.

1. Indianapolis Colts (0-10): Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford

The Colts need only lose five of their last six to clinch the top pick.

We've talked about the Andrew Luck scenario for quite some time now and at this stage it seems inevitable that they will take the Stanford quarterback if given the opportunity.

4. Miami Dolphins (3-7): Matt Barkley, QB, USC

If the Dolphins keep winning football games the way they are, they may actually hurt themselves in the long run.

Matt Barkley has better numbers than Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart did during their Heisman campaigns yet he's not on the fringe of the Top Five candidates. The Trojans are not as good as their record indicates, but they still have talent at a number of positions.

They are as good as they are because of Barkley, though. He stuck with this program despite the sanctions and has elevated himself to Top Five pick status.

If it's not the Dolphins, it will be someone else who takes him this high.

5. Jacksonville Jaguars (3-7): Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame

This may look like a reach to some, but I cannot justify Alshon Jeffery going in the Top Five right now. Floyd is more consistent and just as physically imposing as the South Carolina Gamecocks receiver.

Jacksonville has a lot of needs, but helping rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert has to be the top priority.

Moving down and letting someone move up for Trent Richardson makes sense, but if they are stuck and have to reach for a receiver Floyd is the current No. 2.

9. Washington Redskins (3-7): Landry Jones, QB, Oklahoma

This pick is going to come down to what the Redskins decided about the Shanahan experiment. He has yet to settle on a quarterback in the last two years and it has cost this organization dearly. 

If given the opportunity to draft a top quarterback, they cannot pass this year.

Jones and Robert Griffin III of Baylor have to be on their radar right now.

17. Denver Broncos (5-5): Lamar Miller, RB, Miami

The Broncos continue to win despite not being able to throw the football effectively. There is nothing I can say that you haven't already heard about Tim Tebow.

What I can say is that the Broncos and coach John Fox would like to get another running back in the mix.

Knowshon Moreno hasn't worked out for them and he hasn't been able to stay healthy. Willis McGahee has his moments, but also has bouts with the injury bug.

Miami running back Lamar Miller is one of the more intriguing players in the draft.

He started off the season extremely well, but has tapered off in recent weeks rushing for over 100 yards only once in his last six games.

Still need to see more of Miller but at 5'11", 212 pounds he has the frame and overall talent to succeed. He's the first 1,000 yard rusher for the Hurricanes since 2002. Ironically enough, the last Hurricane to do it was McGahee.
