Doogan's Digest: WWE Survivor Series 2011 Preview & Predictions
Tonight we are just a few hours away from WWE's Survivor Series in Madison Square Garden where The Rock will return to the ring for the first time in over 7 years when he teams with John Cena against The Miz & R-Truth.
Below I give my preview and predictions for each of tonight's matches. I gave my predictions (which I think are different now) along with Luke in this week's show so be sure to check that out at WrestlingVoiceRadio.com, we're also joined by Luke Gallows this week.
Beth Phoenix © vs. Eve Torres in a Lumberjill match for the WWE Diva's Championship.
I saw these two wrestle last month on pay-per-view and also more recently at a house show in Dublin. And as far as women's wrestling in 2011 it was so much better than anything else we've seen.
I hope we get another good match between these two, but with the Divas at ringside I doubt we'll get a proper flowing match.
This will be the crowd rester late in the evening as we essentially have three main events. I reckon with Kelly Kelly's exposure on the cover of this month's Maxim magazine, WWE will be forced to put Kelly Kelly back in the title hunt and for that reason more than any other I see Beth retaining here. Expect outside help from Natalya due to the stipulation.
Beth Phoenix pins Eve Torres to retain the WWE Diva's Championship.
Dolph Ziggler © vs. John Morrison for the United States Championship.
I have two outcomes for this match and I'm going to go with the one I hope doesn't happen.
With Morrison turning down an outside WWE appearance this week for January doesn't mean he's looking to leave but more that he's now decided to stay. Most expect Morrison to depart in the next few weeks and I guess the WWE has offered him the belt to stay and to throw a swerve ball.
Hopefully a good contest between Morrison and the WWE's most valuable player right now. Possibly expect Zack Ryder to make an appearance.
John Morrison pins Dolph Ziggler to win the WWE United States Championship.
Team Orton (Randy Orton, Sheamus, Sin Cara, Mason Ryan, Kofi Kingston) vs. Team Barrett (Wade Barrett, Dolph Ziggler, Jack Swagger, Hunico, Cody Rhodes) in a tradition Survivor Series 5 on 5 Elimination Match.
I would absolutely love the heels to go over here. However due to what happened on Smackdown the past two weeks I can't see that happening.
Randy Orton and Sheamus are the brand's biggest babyfaces and I can't see them being eliminated, possibly Sheamus by disqualification for brawling or something but not by a fall.
Dolph Ziggler, Cody Rhodes and Wade Barrett could do without the loss so if they do hopefully it's without them looking bad.
Team Orton wins with Randy Orton & Sheamus surviving for their team.
Alberto Del Rio © vs. CM Punk for the WWE Championship.
Alot of people expect this to be a dusty finish. And with the heel champion in the first one-on-one match in their feud that certainly makes sense and I see WWE doing that tonight.
In particular CM Punk could do with the WWE Championship to regain his steam from the Summer—or some of it at least.
However ,The Rock is in the main event so any title change would be an after thought so I see Del Rio getting passed Punk somehow and they move on to TLC.
CM Punk defeats Alberto Del Rio by disqualification. Del Rio retains the WWE Championship.
Mark Henry © vs. Big Show for the World Heavyweight Championship.
They got through the last match at Vengeance without making either man look bad but tonight we need to see a pinfall, especially if the WWE Championship match goes the way I predict.
I hope the WWE doesn't go for the storybook ending and have Big Show win the title at a Survivor Series event like he did in 1999 and 2002. Mark Henry has been entertaining since he's been on top, even more so recently in his exchanges with Daniel Bryan.
I don't see Daniel Bryan making an appearance tonight in my opinion but I wouldn't be surprised if he did.
Mark Henry pins The Big Show to retain the World Heavyweight Championship.
The Rock & John Cena vs. Awesome Truth (The Miz & R-Truth)
Unfortunately, Awesome Truth are an afterthought in this match and whatever the outcome, that won't change.
I'd love to see them win, so at least when they show up at RAW tomorrow they have something they can use to move on with.
Alot of people predict a John Cena heel turn, however as he and Rock are already opponents I don't see a turn tonight to cause a heel turn.
More specifically, would John Cena screw Rock and then Rock go back to Hollywood without getting revenge?
No way. If anything, The Rock turns on John Cena but he has enough of a following to remain face.
The Miz & R-Truth defeat The Rock & John Cena by pinning Cena following The Rock turning on his partner.
Let's just hope we don't get a Montreal ending...
