The game at Happy Valley between Penn State and Nebraska will be the center of attention this afternoon. Because of recent events, that game will be discussed in great length. Although it deserves its share of the spot light, it’s college football Saturday!
There are other games besides Penn State-Nebraska that will make this a great day for college football.
In a Big 12 battle, the Texas Longhorns will go up against the Missouri Tigers. This is a big game for both squads, as the Longhorns attempt to clinch a winning season and the Tigers attempt to rebound from a woeful defensive game.
Missouri allowed over 600 yards last week against Baylor and will need a better outing against Texas if they hope to win. The Tigers will get Henry Josey back on the field and he leads the Big 12 in rushing. The Tigers have not had a great year, but have shown they can pull off the upset when they beat Texas A&M earlier in the year.
The Longhorns could be on upset alert against Missouri.
If Michigan State hopes to play in the first-ever Big Ten championship game, they will have to give a full effort this afternoon against Iowa.
The Spartans control their own destiny and with remaining games against Northwestern and Indiana, this could be the hardest game left on the schedule. The Spartans have struggled in the last two outings, losing to Nebraska and barley beating a weak Minnesota team.
The Spartans have dropped eight straight games at Iowa and the Hawkeyes will look to make it nine after this game.
The Florida Gators are having a down season, but they get a chance to turn all of that around with a big win against the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Any time that Steve Spurrier goes up against his former club it is worth watching. After losing badly to the Arkansas Razorbacks, the Gamecocks need a victory to get back into the Top 10 of the BCS rankings. They are still behind the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC East standings and they need every win they can get if they want to play in the SEC Championship.
The Oklahoma State Cowboys have now settled into the No. 2 spot in the BCS rankings, but they are not getting the credit they deserve. All the talk surrounds the SEC and LSU and Alabama playing in a rematch for the championship game completely overlooking the Cowboys.
Brandon Weeden operates a high-octane offense that lights up the scoreboard every Saturday, but if they fail to beat Texas Tech today then all of their championship hopes will be dashed.
The Red Raiders are limping into this game off of two straight losses, but they did defeat Oklahoma on the road earlier this year. The Cowboys better be awake for this game or they could have their first loss of the season.
If this game comes close to the previous meeting, it will be well worth the watch. These teams met last year in a triple-overtime thriller that ended with a Michigan victory by the final score of 67-65.
Today these two teams will meet in Illinois and this game could be pivotal in the Big Ten standings. Brady Hoke has ushered in a winning attitude in Michigan and still has a chance for the title. The Wolverines are just one game behind the Spartans in the Legends division and cannot afford to lose another game if they want to play in the championship game.
Illinois needs more than that to get some national recognition, but a win against Michigan would go a long way.
The Boise State Broncos have always thought they could play for the national championship. Once again they are undefeated deep in the season and have a chance to finish without a blemish on their record.
Today they will get a tough challenge as the TCU Horned Frogs travel to Boise. TCU has not had a stellar year, but they still have plenty of talent and could provide Boise with a challenge this afternoon. This is a chance for TCU to make a statement by taking down the Broncos on the blue turf.
In previous years Boise has lost late in the season, so they are on upset alert for this game.
The Arkansas Razorbacks are quietly sticking around in the SEC West.
The Razorbacks are off a huge win against the South Carolina Gamecocks and only have one loss on the season. That loss was against the Alabama Crimson Tide, but the door is still open to climb the rankings in the BCS.
When they go up against the young Tennessee Volunteers today, they cannot afford to lose. The Vols may be young, but they play hard and can provide a challenge to the Razorbacks. The Razorbacks have a habit of starting off slow, and if they are not focused against the Vols they could be in trouble.
This could be the best game in the SEC today. Two ranked opponents face off when the Auburn Tigers take on the Georgia Bulldogs.
If Georgia wins the last two games against their SEC opposition, they will clinch the SEC East and head to the Championship game. The season started with talk of head coach Mark Richt possibly losing his job, but things have changed.
Now this team is fully loaded and ready to do battle against the Auburn Tigers in what will surely be one of the best games of the day.
All eyes will be on Alabama as they attempt to rebound after losing to the LSU Tigers. The loss was tough to swallow, but did not hurt the Tide in the rankings as they slipped to No. 3 in the BCS Standings. As long as they don’t stumble down the stretch, they are still alive for a spot in the BCS as the season plays out.
The game against Mississippi State should be an easy victory for the Crimson Tide as they have had a long history of success against the Bulldogs. With a strong rushing attack and a stout defense, the Tide should rebound with a big victory against the Bulldogs.
The game between the Oregon Ducks and the Stanford Cardinal is easily the best game of the day in college football.
This game has it all: marquee players, exciting offenses and BCS implications on the line.
The No. 7 Oregon Ducks lost an early game against LSU, but since then have climbed back into the national championship picture.
Andrew Luck and the No. 4 Stanford Cardinal look to remain unbeaten on the year, and have revenge for a loss last year to the Ducks. In fact, that loss to the Ducks is the last time that Stanford lost a game. Now they host the biggest game of the week in primetime.
Get ready to sit back and enjoy some great college football as the schedule is loaded with exciting matchups.
