Southeast US Fishing Report October

Jess KContributor IIINovember 7, 2011

This October the fishing in the Southeast United States has been very good and looks like it will continue to be hot through November as well. The Florida fishing report is almost always good, but this month the fishing is really excellent. South Carolina fishing is also really hot this month.

Florida saltwater fishing has been great for snook in the Miami area. They're biting hard on live finger mullet attached to a 1/0 sized hook. They are not doing too badly on soft plastic baits. The best place to find the snook are around the docks, seawalls, and spillways.

Bone fish and permits have also been fishing well in the Miami area. The best bait has been live crabs. If you are fly fishing a good crab imitation that has a little purple in it seems to work best.

Red fish are also pretty hot this month. The average size has been around 24 inches.

Florida fresh water fishing has also been really great. Lake Kissimmee is fishing very well for large mouth bass. They are catching some fairly big fishing on spinner baits. The other lakes in the Kissimmee chain are also fishing very well.

Tarpon are steady and are fishing very well in both saltwater and brackish waters. Most of the fish being caught are in the 5-30 pound range.  Live crabs seem to be the best bait.

Up the coast to South Carolina the fishing is also hot. Between Polly’s island and Myrtle Beach the red drum fishing has been very good. Most of the fish are in the 30 inch to 42 inch range. The best baits have been live minnows and mullets.

Fishing for blue fish has been fair with most of the fish in the 12 in range. However, there have been several blue fish in the 3-5 pound range.

When the fishing slows down, try playing some online fishing games.
