The leaves on the Georgia trees aren't the only things turning.
The Georgia Bulldogs have turned their program around. This week, they're a sportscaster's favorite topic as a sleeper for the SEC Championship, and a hope for an SEC East title. Dawg fans around the state couldn't be more pleased. Climbing to No. 15 in this week's BCS polls, the Dawgs finished off New Mexico State 63-16 on Saturday and get to prove their worth against No. 20, Auburn, this weekend at home. This could be a battle, but with a home field advantage, we're picking Georgia in this one.
They've come a long way since their 35-21 loss to Boise State in their season opener. Fans have forgotten about the three point loss to South Carolina (45-42) in September. These Dawgs are faster, more polished, and seem to have acquired a team attitude when it comes to winning. So should fans pack for a bowl trip to balmy Florida or bring the woolens for a colder venue?
With their recent win over Florida, they became officially bowl eligible. It appears that with South Carolina's loss to Arkansas, the Dawgs' chances for a trip to the SEC Conference championship game in Atlanta are getting better. If they lose to a stronger SEC West team like LSU or Arkansas, they'll more than likely appear in a January bowl game that will not likely be a BCS bowl.
Dawg fans will be pleased with either, but right now, bets are on that they'll be ready for some sun and fun in Tampa at the Outback Bowl on Jan. 2, 2012. We're predicting a bout with the Nebraska Cornhuskers will put the wag back into these canines.
The Outback Bowl is a college football game that is typically played on New Year's Day featuring teams from the SEC and Big Ten Conference (third pick from each). The game is a colorful week-long chain of events throughout the Tampa Bay area. The game kicks off at 1:00 PM ET on New Year's Day so mark those calendars Dawg fans and pack this 65,657 stadium with some Bulldogs cheer!
