Montreal Canadiens Fall Victim to the Injury Bug!

Dennis GuimondContributor IDecember 13, 2008

After watching my beloved Habs for the last few weeks, I have a few areas that I would like to comment on...The Injury Bug, the Power Play, and Kovalev's Slump.

Has we enter the holiday season Montreal's injury ward continues to be busy.  With the recent losses of Higgins, Dandenault, Koivu and Price's mysterious illness, the team finds itself in gut check mode.

If Koivu's injury proves to be one that will sees him out of the line up for any significant amount of time watch for Bob Gainey to put everything he has to get Sundin to sign with the Canadiens.

Some Line Combos for Carbo

Tanguay - Lang - Kovalev

A. Kostitsyn - Lapierre - D'Agostini

Latendresse - Plekanec - S. Kostitsyn

Begin - Chipchura - Kostopoulus

Markov - Georges

Hamrlik - Komisarek

Boullion - Brisebois

I'm not sure I understand why the Ben Maxwell call up rather then Chipchura which I think would be a better fit for the team. I know Carbo likes having that seventh defenseman playing in a forward role but I think the team would be best served keeping Komisarek on defense slotting him in the second group.

The Power play

The Canadiens have lead the league for the past two year and now are struggling to put a consistent PP together.  Has the loss of Souray and Streit finally caught up with them?  I don't think it is a lack of talent that's plaguing the Canadiens, it's too much thinking.

Montreal needs to go back to the basics...get bodies in front of the net and get pucks to the net. I see them trying for the perfect play, let's see some garbage goals to get us back on a roll. AND PLEASE, KOVALEV, SHOOT THE PUCK!!!  Last year he was a master of coming of the side boards and snipping a shot.

Alex is the best dangler out there, we know he move the puck, he continues to set up some great goals...Alex if your reading this...take your plane out for a nice flight ... find your zone and SHOOT THE PUCK!  Go back to what made you so dominant last year.

It's not just Kovalev that seems to want to make one more move or dish the puck off, I think the skilled players are trying to do too much...get the puck and some bodies to the net and good things will happen.

All and all I have enjoyed watching the Canadiens play this year...the above article are just some suggestion, some ranting that BR lets us do. To everyone have a Happy Holiday!
