The NFL has many different running back combos that teams use, their is the power-power running back combo, sped-speed, power-speed (scat) back combo, and one fits all style. Are their actually certain combos these players run out of. Basically im saying teams use different running combos and im here to list which one is the best.
#4) The one fits all- This falls in at number three because its a very tiring spot. These running backs performance decrease because sooner than later they will get tired and worn out. Teams like San Diego Chargers, Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, Dallas Cowboys, and Philadelphia Eagles.
Teams with one running back in the back field will get stats, but don't get wins. combined their record is 103-170-2
#3) Power Power- This group belongs exclusively to the Baltimore Ravens. Who's main runner is their fullback Le'Ron McClain with 606 yards and 162 carries. With Wills McGahee in the back field their Ravens are 5th in rushing yards. Ravens record is 9-4.
#2) Speed Speed- This spot is a very nice running combo. The New Orleans Saints and Miami Dolphins running combo with Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown this is a great. These teams are great threats because their running back can always and will always break big ones. The combined record of speed backs are 15-13
#1) Speed Power- With a 63-31 record this puts the Speed Power running back is the best choice for winning. As the records shows this is the most effective way to win, but don't think this combo doesn't work for individual stats either. 3 of the top 5 teams who have top rushing yards have this kind of rushing game.
I'm not saying you can't be a better or worse team with out it. Its just how I see the effectiveness of the team. The Miami Dolphins have the Wildcat which they use up till today. The Saints can have a couple of scat back because they are a passing team. Baltimore ravens can have a power power type of offense because their guards and tackles are outstanding. Bears can have just a one man running game, because their defence can hold up the opposing team.
