Los Angeles Dodgers Sale: 5 Reasons Mark Cuban Is Right for the Franchise

Mike MoraitisNov 2, 2011

The light at the end of this deep, dark and miserable tunnel is finally visible. The Los Angeles Dodgers will be sold, and the right person to clean this all up is Mark Cuban.

People who followĀ baseball make it seem like Cuban is the worst thing to happen to the MLB since steroids, but that's a premise that I don't follow.

Cuban has the ability to reignite an entire fanbase that has gone through the tough times of a struggling franchise with an inept owner.

Here are five reasons why Mark Cuban is right for the Dodgers.

Money

1 of 5

As far as finances are concerned, which at this point must be on the minds of Dodgers' fans, Cuban is doing just fine. No divorces and no looting, just a lot of money.

And he'll spend it too.

Although he won't be taking over to make any moves this offseason, 2013 will be especially important.

Los Angeles' best player, Matt Kemp will be a free agent and if he continues to get his 2012 numbers, he will be getting Pujols-like money.

Cuban would be ready to make that move and then some with all the attractive players on the market that year. He has never been one to pinch pennies and he wants to win all the time.

As is the case with Cuban on anything with the team, it won't be this year. But with patience, the end result might be worth it.

Desire to Win

How many owners can you say sit in the stands during the game, even voicing their displeasure with a strike call from an umpire?

Not many, if any at all, but that's what you might expect from Cuban. He'sĀ well known for being a passionate fan, sitting right in the middle of the action.

That might be what Bud Selig and the MLB fear about him, but they would probably stand to make a lot of money. Cuban would get fined so many times and all that money would go to the league.

But if you're in Los Angeles, that would be a welcome change of pace from the morbid Frank McCourt.

If there's one thing you can be certain about, it's that Cuban will feel the pain of Dodgers fans when things go wrong and will do whatever it takes to make sure it'll go right.

Otherwise, he'll just have to keep writing those checks.

History of Winning

3 of 5

Even before the Dallas Mavericks won the 2011 NBA title, they always had a history of winning under Cuban's ownership.

They have been a perennial playoff team for several years now, having made multiple trips to conference finals and one other NBA Finals appearance as well.

Cuban will put a winning team on the field every year, and the Dodgers will be relevant in the conversation of World SeriesĀ hopefuls at the beginning ofĀ each MLB season.

Competing never has been and never will be a problem for a Cuban-owned team.

Loyalty

4 of 5

Loyalty is a tough word to say in the world of professional sports with the reality of free agency, but sometimes it has it's flashes here and there.

In the case of Dirk Nowitzki, he was an extremely talented player who had never won an NBA championship with Dallas. After all the missed opportunities and failed attempts, Nowitzki had a chance to leave and go to a more ready-made situation and play with another superstar.

In the same breath, Cuban could have dumped Nowitzki because of his lack of success winning titles, and could have taken his cap space elsewhere.

Both of those things didn't occur because Cuban still believed in Nowitzki after all this time, and sure enough it eventually paid off.

It says something about an owner when a guy like Nowitzki turns down what seems like a better situation to get a ring to keep playing for his team.

He won't have a problem attracting players because Cuban's loyalty will bring them to Los Angeles.

Don't forget the lavish locker room he keeps for his players. Only the best.

A Fan's Dream Owner

5 of 5

A few of these guys come around every soĀ often. It's the owner who will do, and sometimes say, anything to be the best team of whatever league his team is in.

George Steinbrenner and Al Davis to name a few, may they both rest in peace.

Cuban is one of those type of owners who can change a sport. Everything on this list is what you could possibly want from an owner of your favorite team.

Besides, if he brings home a few World Series rings to the Dodgers, you won't care what he does.

So why not give Cuban a chance?
