Happy Halloween! After I gave out candy to trick-or-treaters dressed as the "Green Lantern," I turned on Raw and went to work analyzing the show. As I do every Monday night following Raw, I present the "Top Questions Going Forward."
These questions are meant to stimulate conversation and give us pause so we can examine current storylines.
Let's examine what we have, shall we?
Recently, Santino Marella has been given air time on Raw and has used that time wisely by scoring a few victories. Is this significant or just coincidental?
Marella was out of action all of September due to injuries he sustained from a car accident. Now that he is back from injury, WWE Creative has made Marella look good. On tonight’s episode of Raw, he was able to defeat Jack Swagger with a little help from Beaker the Muppet.
I am not sure if I am looking into his return too much or not. I am typically not a big fan of anyone winning matches unless there is a reason for it.
We already have Zack Ryder and Mason Ryan lurking for the United States Championship, so I would hope that the writers would be smart enough to keep Marella out of the U.S. title picture.
I actually think Santino Marella is funny, but I am worried about the WWE creating too many mid-card wrestlers who are “over the top” with their gimmicks. It is starting to remind me of the mid-'90s when we had hog farmers, trash men and IRS agents.
And people wonder why the WWE’s Diva division is no longer credible.
A Battle Royal in which all of the girls are in costume just does not seem like an appropriate match to decide the No. 1 contender for the Divas Championship. Am I overreacting to this?
I enjoy the Divas dressing up on Halloween as much as anyone here, but how could the WWE determine the No. 1 contender for the Diva’s Championship in this type of match?
The women are dressed in Halloween costumes so they appease the male demographic. When you have the sexiest Mario and Luigi I have ever seen, I am not thinking “oh wow, one of these girls will be facing Beth Phoenix in a serious match for the championship.”
I just think it would have been more suitable for the Divas to dress up, show off and have the heels vs. the faces in a match. Tonight should have just been a fun time in true Halloween spirit.
By having ANYONE win in this kind of environment, it devalues the Divas division further.
To top it off, we get to see Eve vs. Beth Phoenix AGAIN. When I foolishly proclaimed last week that Alicia Fox would be the next contender for the title, I must have forgotten that this was the WWE.
In this WWE, we have to suffer through the same match multiple times in a row before we are allowed to watch fresh newcomers.
Days after Maryse left the WWE, I was hoping the Divas would cheer me up tonight. Instead, I was brainwashed yet again that Eve, Kelly Kelly, Natalya and Beth Phoenix are the only Divas the WWE plans on using this century.
After being defeated by the Big Show on tonight's episode of Raw, does anyone still respect Alberto Del Rio?
I am by no means a "Del Rio Hater," but at this point even I am questioning why he is involved in the WWE title picture at all. Whenever Del Rio is on Raw, he loses or runs away from his opponents. Am I exaggerating or does Alberto Del Rio look weak right now?
I was rooting for Del Rio to become a great heel for months. I wanted to see him pan out because I felt the WWE was lacking a dominant heel character.
When the fans became angry over how Del Rio was being forced down our throats, I tried to look at the big picture. I thought the WWE was creating a monster heel that would fill the void.
I am ready to admit that I was wrong.
There is no evidence I can come up with that makes me believe that Del Rio is a credible heel. When I see him on TV, I do not get the urge to boo him. I simply shrug my shoulders.
Tonight, Del Rio lost to the Big Show after he was swatted to the ground like a fly. I do not think the WWE can make Del Rio look any weaker than he did tonight.
Oh, by the way, he is the current WWE Champion in case anyone out there forgot.
If John Cena can beat the Miz and take out R-Truth at the same time, then why does he need The Rock to help him defeat the “Awesome Truth” at “Survivor Series”?
Tonight’s main event pitted John Cena against the Miz in a WrestleMania rematch. The match itself was fairly decent, but the ending seemed very disturbing to me. John Cena made the Miz tap and then delivered the “Attitude Adjustment” to R-Truth without so much as being touched.
I will not make any cliché comparisons to Superman, but when you just defeated BOTH of your opponents on an episode of Raw, then I have to question why you need ANY help at all.
The Miz and R-Truth are only credible when we believe they are a major threat. They seemed legitimate when they were interfering in matches and causing chaos. After tonight, I would be SHOCKED to see them beat Cena and the Rock, barring a heel turn for either of the faces.
The WWE only seems to care about the Rock and John Cena. I have said for weeks that this rivalry is going to overshadow EVERYTHING through WrestleMania, including all of the WWE’s championships.
Is this “dream” match so important that the WWE is willing to overshadow a year’s worth of storylines for every championship in the company?
Tonight on Raw I was honestly hoping to see an Intercontinental or United States Championship match. I am not sure if I had a flashback to the late '90s when mid card titles used to be defended on Raw, or maybe I just ate too much candy tonight.
Seriously though, the WWE needs to do a better job creating rivalries for their titles. Even the WWE Championship feels like a mid card title right now.
When John Cena continues to get the main events, and CM Punk and Alberto Del Rio are smack in the middle of the card, that is by definition “mid-card.”
I would like to see a focus on reinvigorating all of the titles. It seems sloppy when an IC or Tag Team Championship match is made three days prior to a pay-per-view with no storyline or purpose.
The Tag Team Champions continue to face heels who are simply thrown together. The Intercontinental and United States Champions rarely ever defend their titles, let alone have rivalries. The Diva’s Champion usually has the same match over and over again. The World Heavyweight and WWE Champions seem to just be thrown into normal matches nowadays.
What happened to the prestige of being a Champion in the WWE?
