UFC 141: 5 Steps Brock Lesnar Must Take to Become Champion Again

Jeffrey McKinneyOct 28, 2011

At UFC 141, Brock Lesnar will make his return to the Octagon.

The former UFC champ, and MMA's biggest draw, has been out for months recovering from a second bout of diverticulitis.

Lesnar would love to be heavyweight champ once again, but he has a long road ahead of him if he is to make it back to the mountain top.

Here are some steps Lesnar must take if he is going to become UFC champion again.

Fight Through Getting Hit in the Face

1 of 5

Nobody likes to get hit in the face.

But when you choose a career in MMA, odds are your going to get hit.

What Lesnar needs to improve on is staying calm and weathering the storm, instead of leaving himself open while running with his back turned.

Fight off His Back

2 of 5

Sure, Lesnar won his fight with Shane Carwin, but it could easily have gone the other way.

Carwin had Lesnar hurt badly in the first round of their fight.

Lesnar did a good job of covering up, but didn't do much else.

If Lesnar is going to be able to hang with Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos, he will have to deal with fighting off his back.

Train at Other Gyms

3 of 5

Brock Lesnar's training camps are usually tailor made for him.

This is not uncommon for MMA stars.

What could be a problem, though, is that Lesnar is missing out on training with some of the top fighters in MMA.

Junior dos Santos is a part of the Black House camp, along with the Nogueira brothers, Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida.

Cain Velasquez trains with Josh Koscheck, Jon Fitch and rising star Daniel Cromier, at American Kickboxing Academy.

Many of the top fighters train with each other.

This is not to say Lesnar doesn't bring in good guys, but he could learn a lot more if he took himself out of his comfort zone and moved his camp elsewhere.

Stay Healthy

4 of 5

Lesnar's biggest enemy over the course of his UFC career has been diverticulitis.

Lesnar has missed near two years of action while going through surgeries and recovery for the intestinal disorder.

Although Lesnar may not be able to fully control this, he is doing everything within his power so he won't have to miss any more action.

Get Past Alistair Overeem

5 of 5

Although UFC 141 will be Brock Lesnar's return, it will also be the debut of Alistair Overeem

Overeem is the former Strikeforce, Dream and K1 heavyweight champion.

Overeem may be the best pure striker that Lesnar has ever faced.

If Lesnar is going to be looked at as a serious contender again, he will have to get past Overeem.
