2008 Pro Wrestling Awards: 2008 Diva of The Year

Can anyone ask if this was the Year of the Diva? On RAW, Beth Phoenix showed true dominance en route to another Women's Championship Reign. On SmackDown, we saw the unveiling of a new championship strictly for the ladies of SmackDown. But who can say that they were the absolute best of 2008?

You decide.

Here's the nominees for the 2008 Diva of the Year.

#1) "The Glamazon" Beth Phoenix (Women's Champion), RAW

The Glamazon is as dangerous as advertised. She's beaten practically every woman on the roster. Her biggest victory of the year obviously was the one that earned her yet another WWE Women's Championship reign. In the process, she dominated Mickie, sent both Melina and Candice Michelle to the injured list and got herself a boyfriend (we think) in the process.

Phoenix earned 2008 Diva of the Year honors in last night's Slammy Awards, but the B/R Wrestling Nation might see things differently. Will the muscle (and in my eyes, the brains) of Glamarella continue the dominance by winning our award as well?

#2) Michelle McCool (Divas Champion), SmackDown

For years, she's been underrated. The reason: She's been more of a good piece of eye candy than a wrestler. But lately, she's been proving herself week after week, and this past summer, all that hard work paid off.

At Night of Champions, McCool staved off the submission specialist Natalya to become the first-ever Divas Champion. Since then, she's stopped the onslaught of Maryse, Maria, Victoria & Natalya to continue her reign as Divas Champion. But she couldn't help her team defeat RAW at Survivor Series led by Beth Phoenix.

Still, she is the Divas Champion, and she has been the perfect face...playing the perfect heel on SmackDown.

#3) Melina, RAW

Is there a more glamorous, beautiful and athletic Diva in the WWE? From her patented entrance (complete with leg splits) to her innovative style of wrestling, Melina has been one of the most dominating Divas on RAW. Her only achilles heel seems to be The Glamazon's constant interference.

Despite being put on the injured list, Melina made her return two weeks ago, and already has began to resume being a thorn in the side of Phoenix. That means it's only a matter of time before the two former BFFs lock up for the Women's Championship.

With that said, I can say that of this list, there are two women who win the beauty contest portion of the awards ceremony. But is Melina the 2008 Diva of the Year?

#4) Candice Michelle, RAW

From GoDaddy to Playboy, Candice Michelle has done everything in the WWE. She has even been the WWE Women's Champion. But thanks to a match with Phoenix, she was placed on the shelf with a broken collarbone. Despite that, Mistress Twistress has blown back onto the scene and looks better than ever.

Like Melina, Michelle has an old score to settle with Beth Phoenix. If Stephanie McMahon was a smart woman, she would make this match happen while all three women are primed and ready for a catfight.

So because of what she's accomplished at the beginning of the year, she gets the nomination. But is it enough to garner the award as well?

#5) Natalya, SmackDown
