Ever since then it has been all downhill losing two straight against the inconsistent Denver Broncos and the San Francisco 49ers. Every Jet fan was pleased of this team thinking they were gonna go all the way, finally get their second Super Bowl win, but now it seems it was just a fluke.
These past four weeks in which they won games against the Patriots and Titans (both road games) then losing to the Broncos and 49ers is what being a Jet fan is all about. There has been only one bright spot in the whole Jets franchise and for Jets fans. and that's Joe Namath waving his finger after winning Super Bowl III against the Baltimore Colts in 1969. Besides that moment everything is low for a Jet fan.
There have been some hope for the Jets but then they come crashing down breaking your heart. There was the 1998 AFC Championship game against the John Elway lead Denver Broncos in which the Jets had a 3-0 lead at halftime. They were 30 minutes from going to the Super Bowl, but everything came crashing down losing 23-10.
Another moment was the 2004 Divisional Playoffs when the Jets were playing the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Jets had two chances to win the game and play their rival the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game. The game was tied at 17 with two minutes left when Doug Brien missed a go ahead 47-yard field goal.
Now the Steelers get a chance to win the game but rookie Ben Roethlisberger is picked off by David Barrett and the Jets have it at the Steeler's 36-yard line. Doug Brien tries a FG attempt again, this time from 43 yards, but misses, once again. The Steelers then go on to win it in overtime.
These two events and many more is what a Jet fan is all about. There are big spots of hope but it all comes crashing down on you and this year seems to be no different. But all i have to say is hold on Jet fans because some day, some day our time will come.
