Jahvid Best Injury: Assessing Fantasy Impact on Maurice Morris, Jerome Harrison

John RozumOct 17, 2011

According to Chris McCosky of The Detroit News, Lions RB Jahvid Best received his second concussion of 2011 on Sunday against San Francisco:

"

"He sustained a concussion, his second of the year (he had one in training camp), after a 1-yard run."

"Best was in the locker room after the game, but was not allowed to talk to the media per NFL policy. The Lions did confirm that Best was concussed."

"Best had a run of concussion-related issues during his junior season at Cal, as well, so the team will proceed with caution."

"

So with that having been said, if Detroit really wants to sustain any shot at making the postseason, sitting Jahvid Best for the next couple of games (at the very least) should be considered.

You can't have your most threatening RB continue immediately after suffering one concussion, let alone two.

Therefore, expect backups Maurice Morris and Jerome Harrison to become the featured two-back tandem for QB Matthew Stafford.

However, don't expect too much production, as the Lions will become even more pass-heavy.

Morris and Harrison only combine for 61 yards on 23 carries and no TDs, and RB Keiland Williams is actually second on the team behind Best with 19 carries for 49 yards and one TD.

Even WR Nate Burleson has more yards than Morris, with 24 yards on three attempts.

All this being mentioned, there's no reason to add Morris or Harrison unless you're desperate for a No. 2 backup RB or flex position player.

If you add either of them it should be Harrison, as he'll most likely receive more carries, but don't count on him doing work because even with Jahvid in the lineup, Detroit still only ranked No. 25 in rushing offense.

Also, if you happen to have Best on your team, don't drop him because he will be back later on in the year.

Just try and pick up another RB that has a better chance at producing, because until Harrison or Morris actually produce, they're not worth looking at.

Worst-case scenario, you end up starting your current backups until Best gets back on the field.
