Creature Vs Creature: Gridiron Gurus on Championship Weekend

**As part of a new series, a group of B/R writers make their picks on key college football and NFL matchups. Minus numbers in parentheses denote how much a team is favored to win by.
NCAA Football
Missouri vs. Oklahoma (-16) BIG XII Championship
Game Overview:
Many people picked this as a preseason conference final.  What a long strange trip it’s been.  Right now many people also believe Oklahoma and Florida are the two best football teams in the country.
Missouri is coming of a heartbreaking loss to Kansas in Kansas City.  Mizzou probably it more snags than anticipated over the course of the season.
Keys to the Game:
Plain and simple, Missouri’s defense must stop the OU offense.  Slowing down OU’s offense is a tall task, however it will be monumental and noteworthy if you can do it.  The way KU shred their defense last week I doubt they can even slow down OU. But if they want to have a shot, their only ticket to the BCS is to shut down OU on offense.
Point spread: (-16) Oklahoma will cover
Prediction:  Oklahoma 54 Missouri 17
Confidence Meter: Five Stars

Alabama vs. Florida (-10) SEC Championship
Game Overview:
After losing early this season Florida has played at a high level and has dominated the opposition.  Florida appears to be the only non-Texas team that can hang with Oklahoma punch for punch.  In order to possibly meet OU, they must put a TKO on a hard nosed Alabama squad who is ranked No. 1 in the nation.
This will be a title fight.  The most wary thing for Alabama is that they escaped defending national champion LSU in overtime.  The problem is LSU has become average this season.
Keys to the Game:
Alabama CAN shutdown Florida’s powerful offense, the question is WILL they?
Point spread: (-10) Florida will cover (Chomp!)
Final Score:  Florida 34 Alabama 23
Confidence Meter: Four Stars

Boston College (-1 ½) @ Virginia Tech ACC Championship
Game Overview:
BC has the better offense and VaTech the better defense.  In week eight the Eagles jumped on top of the Hokies early and hung on to win 28-23 in Boston.  This time around BC will be on the road.
Keys to the Game:
Can VaTech live up to their full potential at home and overcome BC?
Point spread: (-1 ½) BC should cover statistically, but won’t in a mild upset Hokies win
Final Score:  Virginia Tech 24   Boston College 21
Confidence Meter: Three Stars

Navy (-11) vs. @ Army Commander in Chief Trophy and Pride
Game Overview:
Navy is 7-4 and Army 3-8, their records are usually strong indicators on who will win, but historically it is a rivalry game of the most bitter kind.  So you have to throw the records out.
Navy beat Air Force and Army lost to Air Force.  Navy wins the trophy outright with a win.  Navy also gave Notre Dame all they wanted a few weeks ago.  I’m so old I can remember when this matchup mattered more than it does now.
Keys to the Game:
Will Army rise above their record?  Of course they will!  I’m an Army.
Point spread: (-11) Navy will lose and Army will cover because I’m an Army brat!
Final Score:  Army 33   Navy 21
Confidence Meter: Zero Stars

NFL Quick Picks
(-7) PHI @ NYG  One word:  Plaxico turmoil ~ Philly covers and wins
(-3) ATL @ NO  Two words for the Saints:  Must win.  Saints cover in New Orleans and win.
(-1) MIA @ BUF  Miami is favored by one on the road.  Miami will lose in Buffalo.  No cover.
(-3)   DAL @ PITT  Dallas favored against the banged up Steelers.
This week we will know for sure if Dallas is for real or a pretender.  Pick Dallas to cover and win.
WAS @ BAL (-5 ½) (Sunday Night)  Baltimore is discovering offense and Washington is hard to figure out.  It’s do or die in Washington.  Washington should cover and win.
TB @ CAR (-3)  (Monday Night)  It’s a title fight on Monday night for the conference crown.  Tampa is probably the better team.  Carolina covers and wins.
