Denver Broncos: Tim Tebow Brings Hope and Optimism, If Nothing Else

The Denver Broncos loss Sunday to the San Diego Chargers brought a new perspective and optimistic attitude that is a rare feeling in a losing effort.

As the clock struck zero and all 74,000+ fans in attendance stood on their feet and intensely watched as Tim Tebow scrambled in and out of Chargers defenders trying to complete what would have been the game-winning touchdown, it was apparent that this is what the Denver Broncos fan base has been so desperately starved of experiencing.

This small moment of hope and optimism that maybe, just maybe, the Mile High magic has returned.

With the Chargers going into halftime up 23-10 and the Broncos looking lethargic (to say the least) on offense, they needed a spark. Kyle Orton was 6-13 for 34 yards and had one interception in one half of play and was really off target with his throws the entire half.

John Fox decided that now is the time. Kyle Orton was benched and it was now Tim Tebow’s shot to see if he can provide a much-needed spark to the offense.

As Tim Tebow entered the huddle for his first drive of the second half, the entire feel of the game changed. Hope was injected into the Broncos offense for the first time all year.

Although his first two possessions had resulted in four incompletions in five attempts and no passing yardage, Tim Tebow’s ability to create something when there in nothing is what sparked the potential for a comeback.

It may not be “Manning-esque” or so beautiful that you could put the film up on the projector and teach a bunch of young kids on, “this is how it’s done,” but there is something about Tim Tebow being on the field that provides optimism. One cannot help but feel that somehow, some way, he is going to make a play.

John Fox has not officially announced that Tim Tebow will be the starter in Miami after the bye. However, the fact that he made the decision to bench Kyle Orton after taking such a hard stance through the first five games that Orton was his starter shows that John Fox knows it’s time for Tim Tebow to be given his chance. He’ll have 11 games to prove he is the Broncos' franchise quarterback.

While it is clear that the Denver Broncos have many holes to fill and a change at quarterback is not the only answer to turn the season around, Tim Tebow as the starting quarterback gives an immediate glimmer of hope and optimism that has been lacking in this organization for years.
