The Original Plans For WWE Survivor Series

As has been rumored, the WWE put the title on Edge as sort of a last minute thing and it actually was not going to happen the way we saw. We all knew that when Edge arrived in Boston the day of the Survivor Series that he'd be involved somehow.

The actual plans we saw were planned about a day or two before, just in time to get Edge out to Boston from Florida, and get him involved. He actually was going to be at the SmackDown tapings for his return the following Tuesday.

The actual storyline was this from insider pwrestlingnews.com:

"At one time was to hold a Single Match between Triple H and Vladimir Kozlov at the Survivor Series.

The reason Hardy was added to the match was because WWE officials were concerned that a singles match between Hunter and Kozlov would not be entertaining. Hardy was added to make the match better.

However, there was no serious consideration given to putting the WWE Title on Hardy. Rather, the buzz was that the company wanted to protect Kozlov, but not put the title on him.

Therefore, Hardy would have done the job had they went ahead with the match and not come up with the storyline with Edge entering the match and winning the title belt. That said, Vince McMahon was described as "non-committal" regarding the finish of the match."

Now Vince really likes Kozlov and he has ever since he arrived and debuted on SmackDown months ago. He wants him to hold a WWE Championship at least once or twice, but figured he wasn't ready.

This was why he wanted him to not win at the PPV. Triple H was going to lose the title at Survivor Series anyway, but they thought Kozlov wasn't ready.

And they didn't want Hardy to hold it, which I cannot see why considering he is one of the most popular in the WWE today. Everyone has been itching to see Hardy win it.

I know a lot of the B/R wrestling writers have said that Hardy needs to hold the title in many articles. Tons of other websites have mentioned he needs to hold it. If the WWE did finally let Hardy hold the title I'm sure they would get great feedback.

I know they are worried about Hardy and his past with drugs and alchohol. But he seems to be diffferent and his brother Matt has been with him pretty much every week now. His new image he is portraying is only making him even more popular to me.

I just don't see why the WWE cannot let him be Champion sort of like CM Punk was, he could hold it about three months or so. You could always make him give it up if you release him for the three strikes thing.

Well, all we know now is what we actually saw at Survivor Series with Edge winning the WWE Championship. What did you think of the match?

I predict on Tuesday Kozlov goes to ECW to get revenge on Matt Hardy, for the time limit match. Mark Henry will do his usual i get next title shot, and Kozlov beats him and wins the ECW title at Armegeddon. This allows Kozlov to win a title without losing his winning streak. It also gets ECW a champion that can actually win a match on Raw or SD.

Weel I see where your going John, but it is unlikely, see Kozlov may be able to do well in ECW and most likely beat Matt Hardy, but I don't see him going over to ECW anytime soon when he is still in between a push on SD!, he may end up as US Champ though, how interesting would that be?

No way they make kozlov US IC champ those titles are strictly lower tier. Your opponents define ur career and Matt Hardy is making the ECW title worthless by his constant losing in the cross promotion matches. Lost in his time limit match with Kozlov was the fact that the ECW champ did not win, merely did not lose in the allotted time. The ECW title must be made more distinguished by having a decent champ. 3 world titles is very hard to balance as equals. There can only be 1 "best".

The reason that Koslov and HHH was to be made a three way was because they did the match on the road and it wasn't good. That's why Hardy was to be added. Obviously, they made a change to get Edge in there and it was probably the right move. But saying that Hardy was unconscious in a hotel room was so sleazy.

You answered your own question about why Hardy hasn't got the belt yet. He was actually slated to get it more than likely by SummerSlam of this year, but he screwed up again right before Mania. Punk's Money In The Bank win was supposed to be Hardy's.

Also, if they do give Hardy the belt in the future, I hope it's not like Punk's reign. The poor guy is in exactly the same spot today as he was this time last year.

Oh ya many know that Hardy was supposed to be in the MITB match this past Wrestlemania and win it. And then go on and win a World Title sort of how Punk did. Word going around this year is that Hardy will be in it and win, that is unless somethign else happens with him.

I think they missed the boat with him. The hottest point of his career was after he beat HHH at Armageddon last year and then he lost to Orton at the Royal Rumble. That would've been the perfect time to give him the title. But they had their booking plans and decided to beat him. And then they were going to rebuild him with that win at Mania, but it was too late.

I guess, in hindsight it was the right call because of his screw up, but he's nowhere near as hot now as he was. And also, they keep beating him and it's not helping him at all. Who's going to take the fall in two weeks? If I was a betting man, it'd have to be Hardy right?

I'd say so too, I mean an Edge/Hardy feud was talked about since Hardy was drafted to SD! But we haven't seen it until now. I feel that his new image is making him popular even more than he once was, did you hear the pop last night in D.C when Stephanie said he was up for superstar of the year? He got more of a pop than Batista and it was his home town. THe crowd has been dieing to see Hardy win the big one, the gave Matt the ECW Title, I figurethat could be the only big title he'll ever win. They are just to stupid to realize that he would be a good WWE Champion. They took a risk on Edge when he won it, it turned out great, same with Orton. I could garuntee there will be no slip up if he wins it, because that is all he wants out of the WWE, just one chance to hold the WWE Championship.

Eh, I'm not so sure I'd agree with that. Hardy may want a run as the champion, but the one knock on him is that he doesn't live, sleep, and breathe the business. It may be a really big deal to him, but not as big of a deal to someone like HHH or Edge or Cena.

You can't really book to the crowds these days because your true money making audience is PPV. There has to be a combination of who the fans enjoy and who is actual box office. I'd say that Hardy right now is a semi-hot character, unlike someone like Randy Orton who is really hot or Chris Jericho who has been awesome.

I think the fans would get behind him as champion for a short time, but his strength is in the chase, not in being the guy. I do hope he gets a chance though.

I see your point, but Hardy as Champion would be sort of like when HBK became champ for the first time, not as contreversial though. HBK won it because people wanted to see it for a long time, and Vince saw that Hart's contratc was going to be up and was going to leave so he gave the title to Micheals, what we know as the Montreal Screw Job. Hardy may not have all of that , but the crowd will go off as they did with HBK, a dream finally realized would be great for the fans. For years Hardy has brought in people to the arenas, he has thest pop out of any superstar, and no one ever has booed him to my knowledge, unless he was a heel sometime. He would be a great champion and the hardest part is getting the first one. Once he wins one and the WWE sees how much it brings in, then they may make him champ many other times, as they have done with Edge and Orton

But that wasn't the first time HBK won the title. He'd been champ the year before at Mania XII in the 60 minute Iron Man Match. And the idea was to do the rematch at Wrestlemania 13, but you know, Shawn lost his smile, aka, didn't want to lose to Hart.

And Hart's contract wasn't up and down. Vince signed him to a deal, renegged on it, and then told Bret to sign with WCW. Bret signed and the idea was always to put the belt back on HBK, but Bret didn't want to lose the title in Montreal. He was fine having HBK pin him the next night, or even at the next In Your House.

I honestly don't think Hardy would be a drawing champ. He won't be booked well enough.
