Fantasy Football Hot Spots and Lame Shots

Week 13 has proven to not be the lucky week for several NFL stars and clubs. As the regular season winds down towards playoff slots, many new faces and locales are present in unusual slots where the old guard is supposed to reside.

In the biggest news of the late week, Plaxico Burress, who was already declared out of the Giants game with the Redskins with a lingering hamstring injury, accidentally shot himself in the thigh this weekend. He was treated and released from a New York hospital, and the wound was described from the beginning as non-life threatening. It apparently injured the skin and muscle of his right thigh, but hit no major arteries.

As the matter might still become a legal issue involving Burress, the Giants had no official statement other than to express relief and acknowledge the injury. As many player contracts contain gun clauses, it will remain a future issue whether the league or the Giants deal with any disciplinary issues, other than finding out how much longer they might be missing his services.

This season has been a tumultuous time of ups and downs for the receiver that ended last season by catching the winning catch that secured the Giants victory in the Super Bowl. Burress is expected to return to action sometime this season, barring unexpected downturns of fortune. Domenik Hixon is expected to start in Burress' place.

Willie Parker will be a game-time decision as to whether he will play for the Steelers against the Patriots. Officially listed as questionable on the Steelers injury report, more telling was the fact that he practiced for the second consecutive day Friday, which is a day that players who hope to see the field the following Sunday mostly have to participate on.
