Atlanta Falcons vs. Seattle Seahawks: Last Minute Spread Info and Predictions

Mike ChiariOct 2, 2011

In what looks to be a one-sided matchup, the 1-2 Atlanta Falcons will head to CenturyLink Field to take on the 1-2 Seattle Seahawks. After a frustrating loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last weekend, the Falcons will certainly have revenge on their mind.

Atlanta has had a roller coaster season to this point with a win against the Philadelphia Eagles sandwiched between losses to the Bucs and the Chicago Bears. The Falcons lost only three games all last season and were supposed to be improved, so another early-season loss could be crippling.

The Seahawks were blown out by the San Francisco 49ers and Pittsburgh Steelers to open the season, but they were able to surprise the Arizona Cardinals last week and currently sit just one game out of the weak NFC West. Still, the Seahawks don't seem to have the horses on either side of the ball.

A dominating performance from Atlanta seems likely, but the Seahawks are extremely tough at home as they demonstrated in the playoffs last season, so they have a puncher's chance.

Prediction

The Seattle defense stiffened last week against Arizona, but it will receive a much tougher test against Atlanta last week. The Falcon offense will likely be looking to have a big day after disappointing last week. Atlanta has a very balanced attack with Michael Turner running the ball and Matt Ryan throwing it, so they should be able to keep Seattle guessing.

Atlanta is weak against the pass on defense, but Seattle quarterback Tarvaris Jackson is very unlikely to take advantage. Seattle's offense as a whole is a mess as Marshawn Lynch hasn't gotten the job done on the ground either.

Overall, the Falcons are simply a better team and they will be desperate to win a game that they honestly should win. I don't foresee a major blowout, but the Falcons should have a fairly comfortable cushion.

Falcons win, 31-20.
