On Monday Night Raw Vickie Guerrero seemed to have picked the perfect addition to her new stable. Mason Ryan would have been the powerhouse of the group, alongside the technical Jack Swagger and talisman Dolph Ziggler.
I had visions of Dolph dominating the US title division before moving onto a WWE Title challenge somewhere down the line, while Ryan and Swagger became the new heels of the Tag Team Division.
Alas, this was not what WWE had planned. Just as Ryan looked set to tear apart Air Boom and Zack Ryder he shocked the WWE Universe by taking out his own 'team mates' thus cementing his face turn.
The most probable reason as to why he has turned face, is because he doen't have mic skills or a manager and therefore would not be able to draw enough, if any, heat from the crowds (see Heath Slater).
So what is going to be the first feud for the newest face in the WWE? Let's muse...
The first possibility is a feud with Dolph Ziggler. This is the feud which most will expect because Ziggler was one of the Superstars who Ryan screwed over on Monday night.
Is Mason Ryan ready for a title chase yet though? The answer is probably no, mainly because he is too green and inexperienced as well as the fact he is embarrassingly poor on the mic.
There are also guys who are ahead of Ryan in terms of challenging for the US title, namely Swagger and Riley, so it wouldn't be a surprise if it was a while before he was on the title chase. He needs a non-title feud under his belt before WWE consider putting him up for a title.
I don't see this as a viable feud just yet because I am expecting (more hoping) Ziggler to make something of his feud with Zack Ryder.
Jack Swagger was the other half of the team who got screwed by Mason Ryan, therefore it would be fair to assume that these two could be squaring off.
This is more likely than a feud with Ziggler because Swagger doesn't really have anything on at the moment, so it could be the perfect opportunity for him to engage in a proper feud that doesn't involve him being Michael Cole's whipping boy.
What would make this an interesting feud is the Vickie factor. She has proven that she can draw heat onto herself and another Superstar, and this feud would need something to give it an extra spark.
I fully expect this to be the return match on Raw this coming Monday, with Swagger most likely taking the win if this feud is to materialise. I can't say that this would be an exciting feud in terms of promos, however it would be a good way for Mason Ryan to get some in-ring time under his belt.
This could be one of the more likely outcomes of the face turn of Mason Ryan.
But who would he be partnered up with? Well two of the more likely candidates are Zack Ryder or Alex Riley.
Zack Ryder is a great face in the WWE at the moment, which is mostly the product of his own work rather than the WWE's. He is literally an Internet sensation and it has finally started to get him somewhere on RAW. Ryder's mic skills and popularity with the fans would make him the perfect partner for Mason Ryan however I don't think it will happen due to Ryder's current feud with Dolph Ziggler.
Alex Riley, on the other hand, does not have a feud at the moment, and his popularity with the fans would likely rub off onto Ryan.
The fact that there is a lack of heel tag teams in the WWE at the moment could make this idea a less obvious route.
Maybe this sort of leads on from the idea of battling the tag team division, however this is more focused on aligning himself with Triple H.
There have been many members of the IWC who were expecting Mason Ryan to return to the WWE in a bodyguard style capacity for one of the big heels, for example Alberto Del Rio or Christian. Now that Ryan is clearly a face, could it be more likely that he becomes a bodyguard for someone like Triple H?
Picture this; Over the coming weeks on Raw, starting from Hell in a Cell, Nash and Awesome Truth start storming the shows, making matches no contests and putting Superstars on the shelf. This is when Triple H brings in Mason Ryan (and possibly another Superstar) to level the playing field.
Ryan's powerhouse persona would be great for this role and could really jump start his career, as long as the end of the feud sees him spreading his own wings rather than returning to mid card.
Could the result of Ryan's face turn actually see him blend into the mid card. Let's use Alex Riley as an example; after his turn he spent weeks being the extra Superstar in tag team matches with the upper card wrestlers, teaming with wrestlers like John Cena, Randy Orton and Rey Mysterio.
Alas, this attempt to raise Riley's profile has left him stranded in the mid card without a meaningful feud, and this could be Ryan's fate if he isn't given a meaningful feud straightaway.
Like Riley, Mason Ryan has the ability to be one of the great Superstars of the future, but it would be so easy for the WWE to drop the ball with him as they have done this so many times with Superstars before (See Drew McIntyre).
Do you think Mason Ryan's face turn was a good move by the WWE? Who do you think is going to be his first feud? I want to hear your opinions.
