Torrey Smith: Baltimore Ravens Wide Receiver a Fantasy Star in the Making?
How many players in NFLย historyย can say they caught a touchdown on each of their first three receptions?
Just one: Torrey Smith.
Well, at least as far as research goes back on such an item (1991).ย But even if we could go back further, is it really likely that we would find anyone else? I doubt it.

Watchingย Smith's highlight reel yesterday, I got a feel for just how fastย he really is. Joe Flacco barely had to avoid any pressure, as Smith was able to jet down the field in seconds.ย His touchdown yardage tells the whole story,ย with eachย catch going forย 74, 41 and 18 yards, respectively.ย Those were some deep throws!
As a result, Flacco is probably feeling anything but pressure today, asย he has just uncovered a huge weapon to add to his arsenal, which might not have happened had newly acquired Lee Evans not been battling ankle injuries. That ultimately yielded the start to Smith.
But with that kind of performance, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh is likely to forget about the ailing Evans and instead start giving Smith more opportunities to make big plays.
And that's why all fantasy owners should jump at the opportunity to add Smith to their fantasy squads this week, because his blazing speed, paired with Joe Flacco's strong arm, is a match made in heaven.
Don't get overly excited, though. Chances are, Smith won't repeat his five catch/152 yard/three touchdown stat line anytime soon. But I'm pretty sure we would all be content with about half of that on aย weekly basis.
Going off of Smith's performance on Sunday, I'd sayย start-worthyย performances from this speedy rookieย are exactly what weย should expectย going forward.
